Shadows in the Night

If it had been daytime, the two children trudging down the road would have seen nothing but a pale gravel road framed on both sides by Jimson weed, crabgrass and dandelions narrowing down and stretching out into infinity. The plowed-over fields of pale, lifeless dirt would have been broken at rare intervals by decaying farmhouses and sadly hunched trailers. There might have been a lone tree or two every now and again.

We were going to take a bath

The morning was close and Oskar was already sleepy.
Eli, while reading another glossy magazine, said with slight annoyance:
- I'm too pale. I want to get a tan.
Oskar ironically raised his eyebrow. Eli continued:
- I have an idea. We need a tanning salon.
- Are you sure that you do not “tan” in 5 seconds, to black coals?
- No, I'm not sure. But I want to try. I'll start only with a single nail. If nothing happens, then I’ll continue with my fingertip, and so on.

So later, after looking at some prospects, they went to the nearest solarium. An assistant, looking at Eli, said:

Eli and Oskar play ‘hide and seek’

- Oskar, do not be boring. Let's play ‘hide and seek’!
- Eli, how can we play ‘hide and seek’ in a two-bedroom apartment where the furniture is not really enough even for one room!
- Let’s bet that you will not find me!
- All right. What the prize?
- Who loses - washes dishes after dinner.
- Very funny.
- Okay. Loser has to run around the house with stick between his legs and shout "I am - Harry Potter."
- You have a strange sense of humor. Okay. Only mind you, you can choose the part of the night for running.
- Ok, But mind you, we turn off the light.

Eli&Oskar and blackmailer

Thanks DMt. for correcting.
-----------------------------
The anonymous-looking man who was sitting in the room's single armchair lazily turned Oskar's Rubiks Cube.
- I know enough to end your cloudless little lives...and, by the way, I dont think I want too much. Fifty thousand will satisfy me.
Oskar gasped. Eli replied nervously:
- Then you know that I can end your own life so quickly, you wont even have time to scream?
- Im not a fool. If I am found dead, all the materials will be revealed to newspapers and police. And believe me, your life will then turn to hell.

O&E and the riddle

Oskar and Eli were flying, very high and very fast.

- Did you see that? We are faster than the Boeing!
- We must be getting close now. Come on down.

They landed on the seashore. Eli complained:
- What a fog. I can see almost nothing. What about your GPS device?
- Zapped. There was a little short circuit.
- Because of the blood of that biker, a week ago?
- ...Yea…

Eli teased him:
- You're so sloppy.
- I haven't had as much practice as you.

Eli sighed but said nothing. Oskar hit the device again and the screen lit up.
- Hooray!
- Where are we?

Oskar slowly walked home after school. The day was a kind of sleepy. Even Jonny, Micke and Thomas haven’t touched him. In general, all was quiet, except for small, minor episodes, such as the one that Anna again knocked him on the head with textbook. Second time this week, he said to himself.
In principle, He could sometimes afford himself something like that, too, just to fill the pause. But, nevertheless, the girls in the whole are strange creatures. Sometimes they seemed to him like another species.

Everlasting Gaze

I wrote this in tribute of the scene after Eli tells Oskar she has to leave and they share that last kiss. She kisses him with her eyes open fixed on him as to immortalize their last memory together. I know I've posted it twice but the second time I wanted to include a discussion link so people can tell me whether or not I suck...

Everlasting Gaze

Quick as a heartbeat
Quiet as a whisper
You stole me
Took me away from all I knew
Everything I got so used to
Gone within a blink
Without you I had nothing to lose
In a life filled with scars
You were my newest bruise

I cannot write original stories for anything but I do consider myself a decent poet. This piece is dedicated to the scene after Eli says she has to go away after Killing Lacke. I noticed when she kissed Oskar she kept her eyes open and fixed on Oskar which made me feeling like she was trying to immortalize the moment. Without further adieu, please read and comment:
