Is the puzzle egg thingy real?

Post by cx1138 » Thu Jan 05, 2012 10:07 pm

The puzzle egg that Oskar touches and falls apart, does anyone know what it is and if we can buy one just like itsomeplace or was it something made for the movie? I think it looks cool and would make a good hidden storage egg if it's not just a movie prop. But I wouldn't want to have to put it back together too many times unless there's an easy way to do it. :)

I think it may be computer generated. I have a Blue Ray still of Eli playing on the floor while the base podium of the egg is in the picture on top of the table, but no egg itself. I haven't figured out how to post a picture yet.

I think that it is real and just as Eli said it probably goes for the same price as a nuclear power plant! That one may have just been a lookalike but I'll bet a real one similar to that would put you back a little bit. Maybe not as much as a nuke plant but I'll bet they aren't cheap. Check search engines and see what comes up. I think I will do the same, now I'm interested also!

The egg is Faberge but I'm having a hard time finding if they ever actually made one that collapsed and could be reassembled like a puzzle. If so I think only richest of the rich or the very brave would dare take it apart! It had to be based on something that really existed at some point. They may not now, but at some point...

But such a thing may exist somewhere, even it were some cheapy knockoff. If not it could easily become someone's claim to riches! Someone with a good eye for detail could create one and easily make millions! Heck they'd make all kinds of money just from people that are LTROI fans!

If I had absolutely any woodworking or metalworking talent I'd make one! It wouldn't be hard for someone who has an eye for stuff like that...

Yes, it was CGI. Too bad, because it was very cool.

You can see some real Fabrege eggs here:

And here is John Ajvide's post about Eli's egg. :)

Finally, if you're on a quest for a really cool puzzle, this site has tons of stuff for sale: http://www.seriouspuzzles.com/

I've always taken that line to signify that despite his true age Eli is still quite childish in terms of his understanding of the world.

I mean I have no idea how much something like that (if it existed) would cost, or how much a nuclear power station costs, but I'm guessing the latter would be quite a bit more expensive.

And yes, it is very cool, but if I owned one I'd be afraid to touch it because I know I'd never be able to put it back together again

I was exaggerating of course  I'm not sure how much a nuke plant costs but a Faberge egg costs more than I'll have any time soon! I doubt Eli has any idea how much a nuke plant costs either nor does she know how much the egg costs. I'm assuming it's another thing she stole. I can tell it was her kind of smarta** way of saying she's all but poor despite her very "humble" home environment.

I'm not sure I want one that fancy but I want one! If such a thing doesn't exist or is too rare I might find someone to make a wooden one for me...or maybe copper. I think a copper one that's got a decent amount of age showing through it would be awesome!
