Okay. I guess that makes sense. I liked it better in the novel where Eli was actually wearing Oskar's shirt.

Wasn't she wearing the same coat in the taxi ride at the start of the film?ofelia wrote:There's a part that bothers me, when Eli is looking into the pool from the outside and puts up her hand. What happens to me is that every time I read the name Eli in a newspaper or another book, I can't read it because I only see this Eli. I almost wish no one else would use it.

As for why she would need hat, gloves and coat, think about what Oskar asked her at the jungle gym: "Aren't you cold?" Dead of a Swedish winter, late at night, and Oskar's hands are probably already freezing painfully, and there's little Eli barely dressed enough to keep a normal child warm on a mild summer day. Eli wore the winter gear at the pool so other people wouldn't notice her. It was camouflage.a_contemplative_life wrote:Wasn't she wearing the same coat in the taxi ride at the start of the film?ofelia wrote:There's a part that bothers me, when Eli is looking into the pool from the outside and puts up her hand. Maybe Eli just mimics the behaviour of a normal child by wearing all these clothes because she wants to be a normal child, especially after she met Oscar. Of course she can't overcome the barrier which is the window of the pool to join the other kids what makes this scene very sad.sauvin wrote:As for why she would need hat, gloves and coat, think about what Oskar asked her at the jungle gym: "Aren't you cold?" heh, heh, that would explain the missing clothes.rgh wrote:It seems the Eli spent most of her time in seclusion, so she never worried about how she looked. After she met Oskar and starting having some feelings for him, she wanted to spend time with him, which meant being around other people to do the things he liked. It must have occurred to her that she would have to blend in more. She then (likely) proceeded to raid the local laundry room for more appropriate cloths.
... she looks like a kid who has just been overindulgent with chocolate cake or a messy candy bar...
I could just picture Arnold planting a bloody kiss on Oskar telling him "I'll be back."
