I can feel half the members of this forum is ready to pounce on this. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I'll only say, I'm pretty sure you will change your views once you read the book.

Indeed, we are! But I won't spoil anything as well, haha. Even though JAL said the "cycle theory" was something that you could inquire by watching the movie, it wasn't my thought at all while I watched the movie. But yes, I recommend the book as well, since you liked the movie, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy the book as well or even more. And welcome to the forum!

As you have noticed there are different opinions, and I really just want to point out that the film can be seen as a stand alone story which leaves openings for more interpretations than the book - where more details about the background of several of the characters are given.
I can tell you about my first interpretation of the film for instance. I thought that a beautiful but bittersweet history would be that Håkan was actually Eli's brother who had stayed with him for many years while Eli had not aged. Just watching the film and not taking any further sources into account I thought it was a possibility - just as Oskar becoming Håkan's replacement is a possibility. Still, it's open to everyone's interpretation - but the novel gives more background, and the recently published epilogue Let The Old Dreams Die gives some information about what took place after the train journey .

I can see where you're coming from with your viewpoints on the story after just watching the film, but I think your view on the story will change drasticlly after reading the book

How many times have most watched the movie? I'm in the 8-9 times myself. It just gets such a hold on you and you can't leave it. I watched "Let me in" twice and don't really care for it. I guess remakes just don't work for me. Can I just leave Eli a twelve year old girl? I know the boy thing, but for me, having Eli a girl makes the story softer for me. Yeah, I know that isn't the proper thing, but it works for me. Plus Eli looks so much like my 11 year old grand-daughter, I mean alot. Hair, face, nose, size. The first I watched it I thought, OMG its Kayla's twin. I have to go through my photos and i'll post one so you can see her.
Also in the relationship between Eli and Osker it shows you that two people can be very close and even love with out being a twisted sexual slant to it. With there "special" kind of existence, they have no other choice then to be this way. Is the follow up to the ending out in print yet?

Age is a state of mind and no girlfriend here, but looking! The "i'm not a girl" part for me was she was saying she wasn't a human girl, now I know different. Once I get my hands on the book, next week, i'll learn alot more.
