Is the book any good?

Is the book any good?
Hey,
So I haven't yet read the novel of let the right one in, but I've seen the film for it & for let me in. Is the book actually any good? And I know this sounds strange but what person is it? (Like first person) Cos I have this thing about only being able to get really stuck into a book is if it's first person as I can actually feel the characters emotions or whatever. So yeah. Should I read it?

Fair enough. Who's actually telling the story, or is it third person or w/e?

Part of the mystery of Eli is that we only know what she is thinking by her actions. Only a couple of times do we hear her actual thoughts. The story is essentially narrated where Eli is concerned, and most of the time for everyone else.GreenEyes wrote:Fair enough. Who's actually telling the story, or is it third person or w/e?
We never stop reading, although every book comes to an end, just as we never stop living, although death is certain. (Roberto Bolaño)
Re: Is the book any good?
The director stated that the story is seen through Oskar's eyes, and the book bears this out. However, some of it is through Eli's eyes as well. In fact, it is through the eyes of several of the characters. But Oskar and Eli predominate. How good is the book? I prefer it over the movie---but only slightly. A lot of the novel had to be left out to get the movie down to about two hours.

Okay, thanks both of you! The books so cheap, only £4.79 so yeah, it's definitely on my books to read list. Thanks again

The book is nearly all third person. Occasional sentences in italics represent a characters thoughts.

Actually, he does describe what people are thinking so I guess you could say it's personal point of view. He does it in a sort of detached way though. The writing is great, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
