Bad news about the new Blu-ray release

Post by CyberGhostface » Tue Nov 09, 2010 2:32 am

Just so it doesn't get buried in the first topic...

http://www.dvdactive.com/reviews/dvd/le ... ne-in.html

"This is exactly the same disc as was released before, save for a new label and packaging."

As for the new special features that we were all excited about--such as an interview with Lina and Kare:

"The Zavvi exclusive has an extra DVD with those features, but not the general re-release."

Whereas the Blu-ray is region-free, the DVD will likely not be. I sent them an e-mail asking if the extra DVD would play on a US player, but I'm not holding my breath.

So...if you already have the UK Blu-ray...don't get this one! Or if you live in the UK, make sure you get it from Zavvi.com.

This sucks. I was really looking forward to the new features. :(

I am pleased to report that mplayer running under Linux seems to be oblivious to "regions".

Awwwww that sucks :(

Although The Hut still has it down as being 2 Discs???? So is it The Hut and Zavvi getting the Extra Disc or just Zavvi

Anyways this sucks

Oh well maybe ONE day we will get a nice Criterion release for this movie (I can hope)... I still have my order down at The Hut, so I'm hoping I get it and get that extra disc.

The Hut site might have the extra disc as that site had the "exclusive" release before everyone else. Let us know if you get it. :)

At this point I'm debating which will come first, I finally emailed The Hut about it 3 days ago, so at this point I'm debating which will come first:

A reply from The Hut or the Disc itself :D

I'm in about the same position as you are at The Hut. I've received several "We're sorry for the delay." messages and a bit more elaborate one when I sent them an e-mail inquiry. Otherwise, I'm still waiting...

I ordered the new release from The Hut. Today they sent me an e-mail stating that it isn't available yet. I ordered the regular DVD; not Blu-Ray.

Amazon has a copy that has a similar cover, but the date on it is 2009. The one at The Hut is listed as 2010. Obviously someone came up with the idea of putting a new cover on the older DVD to improve the sales of it. Still, I believe we are talking about two entirely different products. The 2010 version is listed as having the Kare-Lina interview. The 2009 version doesn't list ANY special features.

Obviously this irritates a lot of people. And it's unfortunate that "truth in advertising" doesn't always apply. But I believe that if you ordered from The Hut you will be OK. I also noticed somewhere that the newer version wasn't scheduled to be released until Oct. 18. Let's face it; that's very recent. Most likely it will be a good while yet before it's generally available.

And just in closing, if The Hut should send what wasn't advertised, they are really going to catch something that starts with an "h" and ends with an "l". Any guesses as to what that is???

Your reply sounded a little more hopeful than the one I got. Of course, it is still based on when The Hut receives a shipment. I'll say maybe by December (for me).
