The Blu-ray still might be region-free like the last one was, though. I think most DVDs are region-locked but not all Blu-rays are necessarily. (Some are, but I've been able to play some on my Region 1 PS3)

Update...A while back I posted that I got "Shipping Notification from The Hut"...I was wrong, I took the email notification from The Hut as meaning they had sent it out...yet upon reading it, its just another "We're sorry for the inconveniance and will post it as soon as possible"

So I figured, bugger this...

So I decided upon looking at this thread that I would try Amazon.co.uk instead. Went to Amazon.co.uk yesterday and placed my order...today I get an email saying Amazon has indeed dispatched it...now lets just hope it isn't the old Blu Ray in guise of the new Blu Ray that they've sent....their listing on the site has the new cover, I'm just hoping it IS the new edition and not the one I already have that they've shipped.

Just in case, I did leave my order down at The Hut.com...but I have this really nasty feeling that what Amazon.co.uk are advertising is just the old Blu Ray and DVD

I would appreciate knowing exactly what you get. I placed an order with The Hut also. I also went to Amazon (UK) and read their description of what you bought. I'm fairly certain that it isn't what you want. There's nothing in the description (at least as I read it) to indicate that it is a newer version. Most relevant is the date; it should be at least 2010. So I think your "nasty feeling" is justified. But if you should happen to be right, I'll be right behind you. :D I also e-mailed The Hut, asking for confirmation of a delay. According to The Hut's website, this DVD would be released on Oct. 18. So this might involve a long wait.

I did some poking around on the disk region issue so I'll get right to it. I found a review here: http://www.dvdoutsider.co.uk/bluray/rev ... ne_in.html and another here: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRevie ... lu-ray.htm both of which list the disk as region free. Both reviews came before the repressing with the corrected subtitles. So it seems this was changed after the re-release? I kept looking at amazons sites outside the US. Japan did not offer the film in any form, but I found it (as mentioned above here) on the UK site. There is no mention of a region but it is in PAL format. That said I looked up PAL format which led me here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code. the PAL format doesn't seem to indicate any sort of region encoding so if you own a PAL format blu-ray player and television you may be in luck based on this section of the article:
PAL/SECAM vs. NTSC
DVDs are also formatted for use on two conflicting regional television systems: 525/60 (NTSC) or 625/50 (PAL/SECAM). NTSC is the TV format used in Canada, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Taiwan, United States, and other countries. PAL is the TV format used in most of Europe, most of Africa, China, India, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, North Korea, and other countries. Some DVD players only play NTSC or PAL discs, while others can play both standards.[9]

In general, it is easier for consumers in PAL countries to view NTSC DVDs than vice versa. Almost all DVD players sold in PAL countries play both kinds of discs, and most modern PAL TVs can handle the converted signal. However, most NTSC players can't play PAL discs, and most NTSC TVs don't work with PAL video. Those in NTSC countries, such as in North America, generally require both a multi-standard player and television to view PAL discs, or a converter box. There are also differences in pixel aspect ratio (720x480 vs. 720x576), display frame rate (29.97 vs. 25), and surround audio options (Dolby Digital vs. MPEG audio). Again, NTSC discs (with Dolby Digital audio) play on over 95% of DVD systems worldwide, while PAL discs play on very few players outside of PAL countries.[9]

Most DVD PC software and hardware can play both NTSC and PAL video and both audio standards.[9]
I have not found any other mention of a region free blu-ray disk available for sale although movies from http://www.playusa.com are rumored to be region free but I don't have anything solid on that. Thoughts on the extended version? I'd like to buy it though I have yet to buy a blu-ray player.

I got an e-mail from The Hut today. The new DVDs aren't available yet, but they are still trying to get them. I read somewhere that the new production wasn't supposed to be available until Oct. 18, which is quite recent. There might be a while to go yet.

Another problem is that there seems to be confusion over what to order. The key here is to read the entire advert. If it lists the year as 2009, that's the old version and it doesn't have the interview. The newer version has the year as 2010 and states that it does have the interview. I very carefully read through the adverts for both versions, and what you want is 2010.

This week I got a reply from The Hut about whether there was a new LTROI DVD coming out that had an interview with Kåre and Lina. They stated that there was no such DVD available. What they didn't answer is why they are still listing it as two discs. I got the British DVD (the one with the director's commentary) and I can vouch for the fact that everything was on one disc.

The mystery (at least for me) is how this "new" version got started in the first place.

(There is, of course, the conspiracy theory. Someone was cleverly trying to sell extra copies of the original.) ;)

The British version, which came out in 2009, does have the movie accompanied by commentary by the director and the author (Tomas Alfredson and John Ajvide Lindqvist). I looked at the liner sheet which came with the DVD. It does have the words "Region Code" on it, but I don't see a number. Since I have a region-free DVD player, this was never a concern for me. Most likely it is the region code common to Britain, though. I don't see NTSC on the liner sheet, but I do see PAL; I assume the colour coding is what you refer to.

On some computers it is possible to change the DVD region for the DVD player. But in the case of my computer, this can be done only about five times, and then one is stuck with whatever region code was used last. I currently have my computer DVD player set on the British region (which I believe is 2). I do have a few DVDs which aren't the USA format.

If you have Blu-ray, the British Blu-ray disc should play on any player. I have a Region A PS3 and it works fine.
