A sultry, even feverish tale, as I recall. I got a collection of Le Fanu's ghost stories in a cheapo paperback format a while back, think I'll dig it out.

I remember reading this most of a lifetime ago, now I will definitely read this again, after I finish "The Final Handling". I won't wait until i'm finished with "Människohamn" though, because that one is going to take forever translating as I go!!!

In the interview, JAL again repeats the idea that this will be a new adaptation of the novel.

My French is a little rusty, but that translate pretty easily as "Matt Reeves liked the film very much, but this is not a remake, rather a new adaptation of the book. This is going to be a very different film."

While I'm at I would translate Wolfchild's google translation a bit differently.

Ce serait un enfant condamné à tuer pour boire du sang, comme une terrible maladie, un enfant terriblement seul et malheureux.

This would be a child condemned to kill to drink blood, like a terrible illness, a terribly alone and pathetic child.

I noticed a hotel in True Blood is called Carmilla.

Curious to know whether anyone has seen Roger Vadim's "Et mourir de plaisir" (Blood & Roses) (1960), a French film adaptation of the Carmilla story....

Blood and Roses is a gorgeous looking movie, but a bit on a dull and long winded side. Carmilla is one of those novels that inspires a great deal of cinema, but yet to have a worthy big screen version.
Having said that, Blood and Roses should be seen just for it's sheer beauty. I recommend it. It's just looks so darn good.
