Would you have let Eli infect you?

Post by SFTifoso » Sun Apr 15, 2012 4:46 am

On page 446 Eli asks Oskar if he would like to become a vampire. Oskar answers "no", but what would your answer be if you were in Oskar's shoes?

The thought of growing old, and in a sense, leave that person you love so much behind, might be too much handle. Also, immortality is very attractive. The only downside is killing people, of course. But there might be a way around that though, since all you need is the blood. And Eli was able to do that with Tommy.

I'll say if I there was a way around killing people, then my answer would've been yes.

According to JAL (2007 interview)- "It wouldn't be glamorous to be a vampire, it would be very sad."
On the balance, the upside of immortality, is far outweighed by the obvious consequences.

If you are willing to drink blood from animals, then you would have a dandy time being immortal.
Though, it always (it seems) implied on many occasions (other vampire tales), that blood from animals have poor quality next to humans.
It's like your favorite dish (served fresh/hot) vs. frozen t.v. food. Now, if that was the case then I guess human blood would be appetizing, no matter how repetitious the meal would be.

In this day and age technology are far too advanced, so I wouldn't take killing for food lightly (no matter how much the victims deserve to be killed).
Companionship, paranoia and trust would strain your mind. It would be an endless loop of depression.

What exactly is the point of immortality? To be young forever. Sounds lonely. Unless, you find your very own Oskar, it wouldn't be too bad.

If the opportunity was given to me: come find me, I'll give you my answer.

It depends on my life situation and age and weaher or not I will spend the rest of forever alone. If I was Oskar I would say yes (And he do say yes just a few days afte he says no, in the epiologe.)
But I wouldn't. I have too many experienses to live, parties to attend and people to meet. I also want to be able to drive and have a place on my own. I want to travel to Blackeberg and get a spouse. If after all that my life would be depressing and useless, and my spouse offered me immortality for both of us, maybe I would agree. Itisn't just anything you know, it's the end of sosial life and the sosiaty, I love the sosiaty, people, daylight, happyness. I would take more than just living forever to make me want to get infected for real.

Hello SFTifoso I like your avatar ;)

 I think it´s hard choice. To see it from different POV i post this.
Eli´s life is a bit tragic. The tragedy is not born to every vampire. Life of a vampire is the same as the life of a human. It´s about what you can achieve with given opportunities.
About the killing. If you live for long. Subjective. The time will flow quicker and quicker for a immortal. One thing will become clear. Death is inevitable for a mortal. One life will appear so short with time , that it will appear worthless to protect and to have remorse out of taking it away. I´m sure, the guilt would fade away with this knowledge. For those brave who would survive the first few centuries

Difficult decision. I myself am a lonely person, so social isolation wouldn't be a big problem for me. Killing people would t be indeed. And I think I couldn't give up the sunlight, I'm kinda like plants and need a lot of light to "survive" ^__^U

No, I don't like the night. There would be things that I would miss. The daylight, going to the library, just going for a walk when the day is sunny. Is to much of a price to pay.

In JAL's world, no. In my FF world, yes. Without hesitation. ;)
