Just before that you can hear Eli's teeth change as well.

I think Eli got hungrier in the dark, and wanted to tell Oskar to turn on the lights.
"Oskar?" Before he answeres "yes" he does so. We see this, and she trunes around and says:
"Hurra" Yeey, good for you Oskar. A few more seconds and it might have ended badly.. DX

Hahahaha that would be quite an anti-climatic ending!

I'd always interpreted that scene as Eli wanting to tell Oskar something important, but that was overridden by Oskar's enthusiasm to tell Eli his bully story. Then she didn't bother.
I wonder what Eli was wanting to tell Oskar. Some important decision she had made?
I guess we'll never know. And perhaps not so important since she let it drop.

No, crank up the volume real high and listen. You can hear some sound coming from Eli's mouth, like teeth gritting against each other. So it's not only Eli's eyes that are vamping out, also Eli's teeth are growing, and that's why she keep saying Oskar repeatedly - she's afraid she might attack him. Then at last Oskar turn on the light, Eli composing herself back to normal, turns around and says "hurra" as if nothing had happened.
It was wolfie who found this, but I cannot find the thread about it right now.

Hmmm, now that the possibility has been brought up, I'm curious-- at this point in the story, what do you think Eli would do if she "accidentally" nommed Oskar? Would she be completely devastated (possibly taking her own life as the thought of living without Oskar, especially knowing that his death was at her hands, would be too painful), or would she basically be like "mmm... pity", and just shrug it off like nothing really happened? For me personally, I think her reaction would be somewhere in between these two extremes. We're at a middle ground-- a point in the story where Eli and Oskar definitely care for each other deeply, but not quite at the point where they couldn't live without each other if something unfortunate happened. So I think that although she would be completely distraught and furious with herself for a while, she would eventually get over it and live just as she did before meeting Oskar. However, if this were earlier or later in the story, I think the outcome would be very different.

Well, a short while after, Eli almost noms Oskar, and scares him off solidly. It's only the "luck" of his father getting drunk that makes him return to Eli. And when he returns, Eli seems more or less back to where she was before Oskar came into her life - filthy, with Virginias blood still under her nails. So my guess is she would have declined/resigned to the state before she met Oskar.
