I must be one few who actually did have a coworker to discuss the movie with. He was an older gentleman who was a huge novel and film enthusiast. I don't think he was as mesmerized by the story as I was, but it was still nice to have somebody there to talk about the film with. I recommended the book to him, but he has since taken a position at a different location within the company. Don't know if he got around to reading it or not. Oh well...

The irony for me is that the two children are like a mirror in which Eli find her humanity as Oskar slips into his personal darkness. I don't know if that makes sense, sometimes it is hard to put the feelings and emotions into words.

It makes perfect sense, and is similar to what the director himself says about the two characters in the UK DVD commentary.

As wonderful as this movie is, I always have a feeling of reservation when I recommend it to others. I work with too many dullards who are as afraid of subtitles as a vampire is of sunlight!!
