Sorry for the necro, but this is a nice window into the collaborative process of creating a book adaptation

I could just picture Arnold planting a bloody kiss on Oskar telling him "I'll be back."

Thanks for bringing this back. I missed this whole thread. It is fascinating to see this creative process, and how it all came together.

That 2 part TV series sounds really intriguing. Hmmmmm...

Thanks for clearing that up, by the way. I had read the book by the time I saw the movie, so I already knew there was acid in the jar. When it got spilled, I simply saw it as another example of Hakan's incompetence. After reading your post, however, I realize now that someone who hadn't read the book wouldn't necessarily realize that the liquid was acid (until, of course, the scene at the hospital window); the spilling of the acid was, indeed, a perfect way to convey what it was to the audience. By waiting until the last minute for the audience to realize Hakan's intention, it preserved the shock value of the act. Very kewl. :)
The first time I saw the move wthl very LQ If you know wht I mean. I didn't see the acid going throught the jacket. I was also very tired, a late night;) But I understood it right away when Håkan spilt it on is face and "bigan to feel pain". So I knew something gross was comming at the hosbital when that time came. "Can't belive what I remember." O.o

And for you John, well. Everybody writes JAL but I think you already know that;) I am so glad you changed your mind, if only for once. I hope to read more tempting information from you! I thing I will be a fan of yours forever. :) Even thought I'm only a teenager, and will grow as a human very much and trubuled in the years to come. I have a good feeling that I will have your books in my bookshell and brag about Let the right one in to all of my adult friends:) You see, tenage girls that loves Twilight are not that easy to convinse. I hope it will get easyer as the people grow smarter. You are like a Rockstar to mee:)
