I think it's the better ending in the absence of a deus ex machina.TAPETRVE wrote:I'm all for suicide.

Re: Predictions on LTROI's Epilogue
Actually, I was writing a short epilogue about a jogger finding the incinerated bodies of both Oskar and Eli clasping each other, on a meadow in the early morning. The whole story would have ended with a short newspaper article about the discovery, Oskar being identified. Don't know how many of these are already in the Fan fic section, I don't like to read fan fic.
I dismissed the whole idea, however. Couldn't finish it. Each time I tried, I got bogged down in finding the appropriate language. Also, it somehow made me furious.

This. I don't care that it's artistically unsatisfying. I like the characters more than I want the story to be "realistic"God of Vampires wrote:4) Eli turns Oskar and they live happily ever after![]()

I wrote a fanfic story involving this outcome - I think it's the only one ending in suicide in this site's fanfic section so far.TAPETRVE wrote:Actually, I was writing a short epilogue about a jogger finding the incinerated bodies of both Oskar and Eli clasping each other, on a meadow in the early morning. Did you write it with Oskar and Eli involved or from a third person's perspective?

Omniscient narrator, but didn't describe their deaths, just everything leading up to it - then it had a kind of epilogue consisting of two news articles, one of them about their remains being found.TAPETRVE wrote:Did you write it with Oskar and Eli involved or from a third person's perspective?

Alright, then I'm glad I didn't finish my work.

Re: Predictions on LTROI's Epilogue
The very first thing I read in this forum was a suicide note from Eli. I can't seem to find it in the Dear Eli/ Dear Oskar thread.
I started, and then gave up on an epilogue where Eli visits a middle aged oskar, who is now married and has children of his own.

I'll break open the story and tell you what is there. Then, like the others that have fallen out onto the sand, I will finish with it, and the wind will take it away.

Maybe I'll get my ass moving and do the picture of dying Oskar embracing the charred remains of Eli I once planned. It's just a matter of getting the heart to do so
