Maybe we should be more welcoming of LMI fans?
So I was browsing IMDB LMI boards and noticed that it looks a lot like the LtROI boards 2 years ago. Most of the posts are long and thoughtful and I think the trolling/hate has died down pretty much. So I was wondering if Wolfchild felt like posting an invitation for them to come here. I know we haven't been the most welcoming to LMI fans, but it'll be a shame for all those discussions to be lost after a few months and it'll be good to get some new people around here. So thoughts on this?

I agree with this, I've been looking at some of the posts on there and there really are some devoted fans out there. The thing is I still have a problem with seeing LMI as anything but a derivative copy with a few very good new new additions to the story

I stand in my original assertion that LMI needs to be taken as its own critter, that if we long-term LTROI Infected insist on holding up Reeves' work against the original movie for "quality" comparison, we willl perforce find LMI inferior. Too [deleted] bad. I would seriously welcome fresh LMI blood, even from the vast wasteland that is IMDB, if they're "thoughtful" and untrolling. If they think LMI is the stuff and that LTROI was "slow" or "boring" or "bland" or something, that's fine - who's to say they're not onto something? - so long as they bring in things I've never considered or seen in Own, Abby, the Father or in their LTROI forebears. And, if they're a bit silly sometimes, well.... heh... ain't we, too?cmfireflies wrote:So I was browsing IMDB LMI boards and noticed that it looks a lot like the LtROI boards 2 years ago. C'mon, Wolfchild, waddya say? Bring 'em on! And to everybody else, I say this: life is change. We can change with it, or we can ossify and eventually die. LMI is here. It's not going away, and if it brings more brains into the forum, it's done at least one good thing. I beg we not attack our LMI-loving guests.

Of course we should welcome them! If it's been their first contact with JAL's works it's anyway an opportunity to introduce them to the rest
And obviously if you have only seen LMI and it has made an impression on you similar to the one LDRKI made on me and many others that is also a good thing and deserves to be taken seriously and be treated with respect.

I think it's safe to say that some LMI fans are already here. Not so long ago someone posted a link to the recent Per Ragnar interview on the LMI IMDB board, got a lot of people interested. As for myself, I have recommended this site to many who are into LMI/LTROI.

Re: Maybe we should be more welcoming of LMI fans?
Personally, I like LMI. I do not love LMI, I rarely love anything. Well, I love LTROI, but that is a different story.
Had I seen LMI first, I doubt I would love it. Still, I have watched it, enjoyed it, and I recommend it as it is pretty darn good (more scary) movie. It would be nice to have LMI fans here. Maybe they can shed some light into what they see that I cannot. Maybe we'll convert some of them to LTROI and vice versa. New blood is never a bad thing as long as it is not spilled.

I second that. We need fresh blood. Hwever, to me the LMI crowd seems like having a more down-to-earth, less emotional approach to its subject and so I find it hard to see any "infection" among them. Feels more like the typical enthusiasm of a keen moviegoer.

Re: Maybe we should be more welcoming of LMI fans?
I was introduced to LTROI by LMI. I saw it a week or two after it was released in U.S. theaters and found it enjoyable. Upon googling it, I came to the realization that it was a remake of LTROI. So I checked it out on Netflix and instantly fell in love with LTROI. There was just something in this story that was missing from LMI which I realized was Eli. I find myself thinking about the relationship several times during the day which I initially found bothersome. I have since come to accept that this movie has had such a profound impact on me and since then I have read the novel and several fan fiction stories. While I enjoyed LMI, I love LTROI. Without LMI I would have never been introduced to LTROI and for that I am grateful.

Glad you found us daimonos. And welcome to the ranks of those hopelessly entrapped by Eli.
Re: Maybe we should be more welcoming of LMI fans?
See, that's what I am talking about
. While I'm quite sure there are people who can and will fall in love with LMI the way we did with LTROI, I think they will be rather a minority.
Welcome, Daimonos. Make yourself at home!
