Hakan was a foppish ineffectual clown, old, tired and stiffening with age. Thomas was just old and tired, but he was a very nasty piece of work, very efficient, very disciplined, very focused, very motivated, very very deadly. I don't actually get that Hakan cared less, I just get that he didn't have as much fight in him.

Maybe they could have used a glass mask instead of a platic one. Then when Owen looks at the mirror the person he sees is himself.

I fear this might be the point: the last thing Owen wanted to see in the mirror is himself.

exactly. It is due to negative image of what they think of themselves. I often times think negatively of myself and often never wanted to see my own face but be someone else. That was long tme ago.
