The best song suitable would be Queen - Who wants to Live forever great song !!
"From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them and that is eternity. " - Edvard Munch

"What is this thing that build our dreams yet slips away from us"

what about 'let down' by radiohead? the track title reflects some aspect of the book and film and is contemporary. It is also haunting

oh hell - and again radiohead 'street spirit (fade out)' - beautiful track which could reflect Eli's struggle to grasp with being normal Vs being the vampire she cannot avoid and struggles to control. The music would sit with a montage of scenes that depict emotional non verbal behaviours.

I think the tracks should reflect something that haunts the soul; like the music from LTROI - perhaps use the original music score as well

Since Oskar likes KISS in the novel, there should definitely be "Strange Ways" featured in LMI.
Well, it's a strange way
The way you look at me
And its a hard time
Time you've been givin' me
Come on and open up
Open up to me
So you can realize
That I could set you free
Strange ways, twisted days
Strange ways, twisted days

Well, it's a strange place
That you've been livin' in
And it's a strange line
You've been deliverin'
I think I like it
But I'm not really sure
Don't wanna fight it
Just wanna feel some more

Strange ways, twisted days
Strange ways, twisted days

Strange ways, twisted days
Strange ways, twisted days
Att fly är livet, att dröja döden.

Do not ask why; ask why not.

placebo - every you, every me- suggests a unity between Oska and Eli - togetherness.

Evanescence - bring me to life

Evanescence - my immortal - superb, the lyrics captivates the pain of immortality
