This one; it's a simple and sweet love song John played a lot while writing LTROI. He even wanted it to end the film, but on one listened to him!

Interesting...Had anyone listened to him, the end of the "LTROI" would have slightly resembled the conclusion of "Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy" with Julio Iglesias' "La Mer"...

The day we met
Frozen I held my breath
Right from the start
I knew it I found a home for my
Heart beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave
How can I love when I'm afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What's standing in front of me
Every breath
Every hour has come to this

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

I've said it before, but this song still makes me think of them:
But from the beginning Eli was just Eli. Nothing. Anything. And he is still a mystery to me. John Ajvide Lindqvist

Mine would have to be without you I'm nothing by placebo, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIRz7zaKGLY
In fact I found a translation of the lyrics meaning and they fit very well with how Oskar and Eli's relationship develops.

I can't believe I'm feeling this way about you, it's strange.
I'm not going to deny it though
I'm going to imagine that I don't feel this way, it makes it easier.
Instant realization sucking me in and making me lie to you about the way I really am.
I've been exposed to too much of you. I live and breathe you. It's killing me.
time goes by
I'm tainted.
Every time you talk to me
I get tongue tied
You're slipping away from me
I just seem to grow more attached to you though.
You've never the real me, the way I really am. Lonely, depressed, everything you are not. We are opposites and I'm a liar.
I'm planning on never talking to you again.
But as soon as I see you, it changes.
I fall. It means nothing now, I forget all about it.
Without you, I'm Nothing.
I can never be rid of you.
Without you, I'm nothing at all.
(Interesting to note that Brian Molko is well known for being very androgynous)

That was cute, but I think it would have messed up the movie's atmosphere.

This might have been what they were thinking soon after they met:

It's not your eyes
It's not what you say
It's not your laughter that gives you away
You're just lonely
You've been lonely, too long

All your actin'
Your thin disguise
All your perfectly delivered lies
They don't fool me
You've been lonely, too long

Chorus:
Let me in the wall, you've built around
And we can light a match and burn it down
Let me hold your hand and dance 'round and 'round the flame
In front of us
Dust to ...

You've held your head up
You've fought the fight
You bear the scars
You've done your time
Listen to me-
You've been lonely, too long

Chorus:
Let me in the wall, you've built around
And we can light a match and burn them down
And let me hold your hand and dance 'round and 'round the flames
In front of us
Dust to Dust...

You're like a mirror, reflecting me
Takes one to know one, so take it from me
You've been lonely
You've been lonely, too long
We've been lonely
We've been lonely, too long

Sorry, I don't know how to get an mp3 anyplace where I can then post its URL. Is there something like tinypic for tinymp3? Menwhile, see if this works:

Here are part of the lyrics that make me think of my own lost loves. Piaf has filled it with heart, with love, and with aching longing. I hope you can find and hear it.

Like Cyndi Lauper's Time after Time, it makes me imagine Eli and Oskar going their separate ways at some point, and that thought fills me with inexpressible sadness.

Autumn Leaves

(French lyrics by jacques prévert,
English lyrics by johnny mercer,
Music by joseph kosma)

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I’ll hear old winter’s song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall.

But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall.

A wonderful song by the classic Armstrong: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFzxo-XI8As

Lyrics:

Yes, all of me, why not take all of me baby
Yes, can't you see? I'm no good without you
Take my arms, I'll never use them
Take my lips, I want to lose them

Your goodbye left me with eyes that cry
How can I go on dear without you?
You took the part that once was my heart
Why not take all of me

All of me, now please take all of me
Can't you see, I'm no good without you
Take my lips, I'd rather lose them
Take these arms, I'll never never never ever use them

Your goodbye, left me with eyes that cry
How can I, go on dear without you
You took that part, what once was my heart
So why not take all of me

Baby please take all of me

I imagine this as a song Oskar wrote after Eli flees. Luckily for him, it seems his wish came true.

NOTE: I finished the novel today (technically yesterday since it's 2AM right now), and it was just as impactful as the film for me.

Welcome to We, The Infected. How did you come to watch LTROI?

The song is perfect. Imagining life for Eli and Oskar after Blackeberg (either together or apart) gives me a lot to think about.
