If things don't exactly work out as planned between the two, then maybe this-

I've Loved Her So Long - Neil Young

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEofTlm-09o

She's a victim of her senses
Do you know her?
Can you see her in the distance
As she tumbles by?
Veteran of a race
that should be over
Can you hear her sigh?
With wings to fly
She rolls along
Doing it wrong.

Oh, I've loved her so long
Oh, I've loved her so long
There's a place that I know
We could go
get away for a while
I can bring her the peace
That she needs
Give her reason to smile.

Oh, I've loved her so long

Maybe not such a perfect fit, but I like the night part.

I'll break open the story and tell you what is there. Then, like the others that have fallen out onto the sand, I will finish with it, and the wind will take it away.

I heard this (again) today, and suddenly realised it reminds me of LTROI.

Här kommer natten by Pugh Rogefelt was released in 1969 on one of the best Swedish albums ever, in my opinion.
It seems the soundtrack of the YouTube snippet below isn't the original one, but has been replaced by the record version.
Here comes the night – cold and wonderfully long
Here comes the darkness – (dabedabe...)
Pugh made an English version of the song, too. Musically not as good, in my opinion. The lyrics are also somewhat different.
But from the beginning Eli was just Eli. Nothing. Anything. And he is still a mystery to me. John Ajvide Lindqvist

This is astronaut ELI.

The girl in the movie is also the girl singing the song. Clubmeister translated it. Thanx ;)

I once observed,
As Lilac bushes bloom in winter
As if in May
Do you believe me or not?
Believe me or not?

Of course, I believe you,
Can there be any doubt?
I have seen it all by myself.
This is our secret with you,
Our secret with you.

And I have seen recently,
That the moon lost in the pine branches
And fell asleep there.
Do you believe me or not?
Believe me or not?

Of course, I believe you,
I saw it all by myself
From my own window, last night.
This is our secret with you,
Our secret with you.

And while stargazing
I have seen,
That two stars flew together in the sky
Do you believe me or not?
Believe me or not?

Of course, I believe you,
Can there be any doubt?
I have seen it all by myself.
This is our secret with you,
Our secret with you.

It's from a Dannish christmas calender series called The pact. The song is transelated and dubbed into norwegian.

(this second verse was added in the dannish verson at the bottom)

English:

Snowflakes falling secretively down
Like stardust, painting the winterforest white
Hold me, it's so cold here without you

Without each other we are nothing
Two snowflakes that are swirling in a winter wind
But if we stand together in the pact
Nobody would be able to separate us.

(this second verse was added in the dannish verson at the bottom)

Cold kisses melting against my worm cheek
Hurry up now, before the time runs out
Hold me, it's so cold here without you

Without each other we are nothing
Two snowflakes that are swirling in a winter wind
But if we stand together in the pact
Nobody would be able to separate us.

Without each other we are nothing
Two snowflakes that are swirling in a winter wind
But if we stand together in the pact
Nobody would be able to separate us.

Dannish(and better) verson:
Bulleri bulleri buck, hur många horn står upp

1. MAD WORLD is the first song that made me think of LTROI. It's Eli & Oskar's lives (mainly before they met each other).
2. YOU'RE STILL YOU reminds me of Eli and Oskar's connection and how they feel towards one another.
3. YOU RAISE ME UP is a song I've heard so much that I don't have the desire to listen to it anymore, but it's very fitting for the way Oskar and Eli make each other feel.
