When Oskar visits Eli in her apartment after leaving his father's place, he asks Eli:
"That old man who was here before. That wasn't your dad, was it?"
"No."
"Was he also...?
"No"
Apparently Eli knew what Oskar was going to ask, and answered it before he finished the question. I can think of several things he might have asked, but I wonder if anyone has an idea what he wanted to ask. What question (or questions) would you have have asked, had you been Oskar?

Was he also...a vampire?
I can't think of any other way Oskar would've finished the question.

I agree.
It's the most logical next question.
...the story derives a lot of its appeal from its sense of despair and a darkness in which the love of Eli and Oskar seems to shine with a strange and disturbing light.

That would be the logical first choice. But what other things could Hakan possibly be? In one instance, Oskar saw Hakan coming into their apartment building during the day. I think that would rule out Hakan's being a vampire.

same here. I have never considered other options than Oskar asking if Håkan also was a vampire.
Oskar hadn't yet discovered Håkans food in the refrigerator.

Assuming it would be some quality that Eli shared, I suppose Oskar could have finished it one of these ways:
Was he also...a murderer?
Was he also...annoyingly vague?
Was he also...a liar?
Was he also...fond of puzzles?
Was he also...attracted to boys?

Having seen your suggestions, I still vote for vampire.
