I saw a shortened version of a preview somehow, somewhere in the month before I joined. It was the quick view of the scene of Oskar hugging Eli behind the candy store. That's what did it for me. The video must have identified that Eli was a vampire - I just don't remember anymore. However this aroused a memory from long ago, of a repeated dream from adolescence. So I decided to find and watch LTROI. I'd never otherwise heard of this movie or this story or its author.

For me, the movie has led to a lot of review of who I am, as an adult and as a person who in limited ways can make a bit of life's experiences better for those around me where I can help. Had LTROI not come along when it did, I likely would not have made decisions as I did. I'm a better person for it - well, that is what I'd like to say that's true but it's not my place to say so. Hopefully I've made a difference. And hopefully LTROI's impact on me makes yet more differences for me and those I know.

I don't know if I'd say LtORI changed my life, but it did make me think of things I'd never really thought of before. And LtROI was the only movie to make the love between the leads convincing to me. Also, Eli is the only fictional character I've ever loved.

well, i can say, that LTROI changed my life indeed. I´m still struggeling with how Hakan is presented in the Novel, but after all, i can say that LTROI changed me to the better.
I see Eli as an abused, forsaken child. The exact thing that would happen, if i let loose on my demons.
So i see her as a kind of direct warning to me. I have a big LTROI poster in my living room, so she is "watching" over me, like she is asking me to always remeber..

I never found a novel or film that intense. I hold this experience in high esteem until i die

Great response, Phobos. A former member used a quote by Wolfchild as his signature: "I have often remarked that many things in LTROI are so ambiguous that it is like a mirror: When people try to fill in the blanks, they end up filling them in with themselves."

That's why I key into Oskar and Eli's isolation, whereas many of us are more moved by the bullying. Starting at age 8, I learned to fight back and I found that bullies are a cowardly bunch. Hit back hard and they leave you alone.

But I think all of us relate to the beautiful OST, the calm pace of the film (and the book), and the cinematography. Watched it straight through the other night. It has lost nothing of its power since I first watched it.

All of the responses a great.
It´s remarkable to see all the people that have deeply been touched by this novel.

Intriges response in particular is very emotional. Sometimes i think that there is literature that really can help people on their arduous march called life...

Then we've all kissed Eli. And it has changed us.

Oskar? She loves him, and that changed her.
