I always thought that the infection was the little flaw in his book. It's Vampirism. You don't need to explain it.

Ok, so I have read it, too. Forgot about the release date, and didn't pre-order the book in time. And I didn't want the e-book version. I prefer paper books.

Now, I got the impression that the infection in this vampire was different than in Eli or Virginia. But perhaps it just worked much more slowly, in which way the story still would fit in the LtROI universe.

And the end certainly was unexpected. If this story is to be considered set in the same universe as LtROI, O&E (and S&K as well) might have something to fear and avoid. But, as I have said before, just because characters and events from LtODD or LtROI occur in the universe of another story, it isn't necessarily so that the characters of that story belong to the universe of LtODD and LtROI. Such connections need not be bidirectional.

Enough of that, for now.

Here are some pictures from different locations in the story:

This is one of Sweden's most scenic roads. Follow it a few klicks, and watch the views over lake Vättern!

A rest stop just outside Hudiksvall:

This doesn't fit the description very well, so I think JAL made the one in the short story up.
This one, near Huskvarna, is actually a better illustration:

An finally, by the way, Gunnar Gravel would be Gunnar Grus in Swedish. :)
But from the beginning Eli was just Eli. Nothing. Anything. And he is still a mystery to me. John Ajvide Lindqvist

I tried to find this myself, but apparently gave up too soon. :D

You've done your usual excellent job of filling this in for us. Much thanks!
