The police (Staffan) suppose to be incompetent or impotent in the story (even in the Reeves version he's alone in the investigation and there just to be eaten by Abby, he's Lacke after all), here the cop seems to be some main self-serious character, which I guess make this some "procedural" stuff yet again

If the police character is based on anyone from the book, I would think it would be Gunnar or Karin, not Staffan. Staffan is really only relevant in the context of Tommy, and so far there doesn't seem to be a Tommy-equivalent character in the show.
