The Silken People by Joanne Harris.
This short, but rich in texture tale is ideally suited for a book like this. It's written in the classic, old style fable format set in the world
where magic lives just beyond the darkness of the woods. Where nature is a doorway to supernatural and what could happen if one is fortunate (or cursed) to stumble onto one of the creatures that inhabit that mysterious realm.
Like all good Fairy tales "The Silken People" is a cautionary story that starts with a warning and ends with gruesome and enigmatic outcome. Fun read. Imagery was reminiscent of Guillermo del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth" (2006)....but in a good way.
