Sounds like a a good news to me, since this is exactly the kind of attention the play needs if there's a chance to stage the production overseas. The National Theatre of Scotland’s production of Let the Right One In, will be presented in London, with Marla Rubin Productions Ltd and Bill Kenwright, at the Royal Court Theatre. It will have a winter run from 29 November to 21 December 2013. Following this, John Tiffany’s production of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel and screenplay, in a new adaptation by Jack Thorne, will be mounted in London’s West End.
This will mark the West End debut of the National Theatre of Scotland.
The production won rave reviews following its premiere at Dundee Rep Theatre in June of this year.
John Tiffany, former Associate Director at the National Theatre of Scotland is now Associate Director at the Royal Court Theatre, where Vicky Featherstone (former Artistic Director of the Company) is Artistic Director. Let The Right One In has been announced as part of her inaugural season.
Oskar is a lonely, bullied teenage boy living with his mother on a housing estate on the edge of town when a spate of sinister killings rock the neighbourhood. Eli is the young girl who has just moved in next door. She doesn’t go to school and never leaves the flat by day. Sensing in each other a kindred spirit, the two become devoted friends. What Oskar doesn’t know is that Eli has been a teenager for a very long time… Let the Right One In is an enchanting, brutal vampire myth and coming-of-age love story.
Rebecca Benson is returning as Eli and the full cast is to be announced shortly.
John Tiffany is working with Steven Hoggett as Associate Director; the two previously worked together on Black Watch and The Bacchae for the National Theatre of Scotland and most recently on Once (winner of eight Tony awards and currently playing on Broadway and the West End).
The production features John and Steven’s trademark high physicality and lyricism and music by Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds, who recently created the score for the successful ITV detective series Broadchurch.
Tickets go on sale to the public on Thursday 11 Jul 2013 from the Royal Court – http://www.royalcourttheatre.com
Full details of the West End will be announced later this year.
