If you go by the English sub it's just the weather. I'm sure it's not word for word with the Swedish version.

Yes, it's a weather report. What is said has no significance to what can be seen. However, the mundanity of it creates a stark contrast to what Håkan is doing, and at the same time places this kitchen scene firmly in a reality all Swedes will recognise.
But from the beginning Eli was just Eli. Nothing. Anything. And he is still a mystery to me. John Ajvide Lindqvist

Now this thread I can get behind.
If anyone wonders, he song that is played before Oskar cuts his hand to mix blood with Eli; it's a lovesong and reflects their relationship pretty well. This has been mentioned before though.

I always wondered why Oskar chose that moment to cut his hand but now I think he did it because of the song. It's like Håkan listening to the weather report. Most people are going to miss little details like that because the subtitles ignore it.

The lyrics to Flash in the Night are so mysterious I'm not sure what they're even about. The song seems to be more than just background music because the lyrics have been lined up with what's happening on screen. In a couple of places it actually works out pretty well. Any ideas?
A flash in the night...
A flash in the night...

A flash in the night... _____ Mr Ávila learns about the fire outside
A flash in the night...

In the changing of the season _____ Oskar has fun with Martin
Releasing one lost name
And the scar once healed forever
Dissolving in the rain
A twig snapped in the clearing
A glimpse of golden skin
My face within

A flash in the night...
A flash in the night...

My despair was caught in motion ____ Jimmy confronts Oskar
A face just barely true

A flash in the night...
A flash in the night...

A flash in the night...
A flash in the night...

A flash in the night...
A flash in the night... ____ Conny kicks the radio into the pool

That's pretty cool. And the song was great, too.

FÖRSONADE (Reunited)
Agnetha Fältskog

(Bolded is the part where Oskar chooses to cut his hand and holds it out to Eli)
Do not be sad, smile a little
You've probably already forgiven me, or how
Now take my hand and squeeze it hard
You win nothing to be cross.

Let me whisper how much I think about you than
Let me explain to you that I love thee
Give me your hand now, give me your love
Take me in your arms again.

Sorry, sorry,
I'm yours, just yours

Come closer to me
Sorry, sorry!

It was probably stupid, everything I said
It is so easy, we all make our mistakes
But the reconciliation kiss will now make
Do I feel now I reach happiness.

Let's go, let's get together to hear birds singing
Take me in your arms and tell me you love me
All that we dreamed, dear, I hid
All is forgiven again.

You take my hand and pressing it tenderly
And then the whole quarrel forgotten.

Flash in the night could refer to Eli braking though the glass and killing the bullies...

Remember:
The human brain is very preoccupied with finding patterns, to an extent that it will see patterns also where there are none.

The co-incidence of these text lines with movie events may therefore be nothing but mere coincidences...

But this can happen to the film producers and editors as well. They too might be similarly inspired, perhaps without directly realizing it, as they as go about creating scenes, editing dialog, executing takes and retakes and then editing the results together to make the film. There can be those moments of serendipity that occurs when plans are put to reality; I'll bet a good producer knows when to and when not take advantage of them .

"Ge sig av" means depart, leave.

In the context of Per Gessle's song, "du måste ge dig av" thus means "you had to go" or "you had to leave".
Thank you, metoo. Google translate gave the translation "You had to give you the" which is obviously not correct.
