Two quick points, movie related:

It may be Sweden, but Oskar's mom had a job and needed to work. She was probably around as much as any parent that works so Oskar is hardly neglected.

If Oskar were traumatized by Lacke's demise, how much more would he be to see his schoolmates dismembered and beheaded?

I hold out for the movie's ambiguity suggesting that Oskar may have died and Eli was an aspect of Oskar's personality.

To be fair, the carnage happened when Oskar was underwater and Eli could have shielded Oskar from the worst of the horrors. I've always thought that Oskar was so happy to see Eli that he didn't really process what happened to the others and that was the impetus for him to leave with her.

In favor of Oskar's relative amnesia is that Oskar's joy was obvious at seeing Eli's return and Eli's happiness was obvious too.

Plus, there is that whole vampire hypnosis thing. :)

Aww, Eli would never hypnotize Oskar, he's already in love. :)

Edit: Whoo 1001 posts. I think I'll leave it like that for a while to mess with the OCD members :)

OCD? Not a bit of it. Anyway, binary 1001 is decimal 9.

Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number 9...
