I want to get the film on Blu-Ray Disc, but do not know the best choice.

I seen this one on Amazon:
March 10, 2009 / Magnolia Home Entertainment / ASIN B001MY1XAW

Don't know if it has the correct subtitles, any extras, etc.

Can anyone give more insight on a Blu-Ray version?

That version doesn't have the commentary from John and Tomas.

I believe the only one that does is the UK release. Which I also believe is region free despite claiming that it's region B [citation needed].

It is impossible to tell whether or not you will get the Magnolia release with the theatrical subtitles, you might end up with the junior school version of the subs that Magnolia shipped out initially. If you don't care about the commentary I would suggest that you go to a shop and pick up the BluRay and check the back for "Theatrical subtitles" ... it's the only way to be sure when buying the Magnolia release.

Alternately, buy the UK release. Added benefit with the UK release is that it doesn't automatically start with the <expletive deleted> dubbed English audio, it doesn't even have the dubbed audio as an option (if you haven't heard it yet, trust me, you don't want to).

I got my Blu-ray from Amazon. It gives you options of theatrical relesase subscripts, idiotic subscripts, Swedish language, or idiotically dubbed English language. (I will stand by my characterizations.) When I get home tonight, I will go on Amazon and try to make sure that their offering is still kosher.

Which version has the most accurate subtitles then? I've noticed mine rather confusingly doesn't match what is actually being said in Swedish.

You know when Håkan pours acid on his face and says "Eli"? If the subtitle says "Eli," you're good. If it says "I'm trapped," you need to get better subtitles.

Anyway, no set of subtitles will ever really match what is being said. With help of some other forum members, I'm doing an Excel spreadsheet of the Swedish (which usually--not always--is what is being said); the meaning in English; and a close to literal translation. It's on hold right now because I have some continuing ed to catch up on to be able to renew a state license in my field. Maybe this fall I can meet Swedish expats in Atlanta and push on with my part of it. It's been a really fun way of engaging in the film as well as of learning Swedish.

Here's how my U.S. Blu-ray version looks.



On the back it lists Language: English, Swedish 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio
Subtitles: English (Theatrical), Spanish
1080P High Definition 16x9 (2.35:1)

It has deleted scenes, etc., but as Jameron pointed out, it does not have the John and Tomas commentary. I'm very happy with the quality.

The essential John and Tomas commentary appears on UK release of the Blu-ray disc.
This is the one I own and it plays perfectly in US players.
They are available everywhere on internet.

Yeah, or in the bedroom scene when Oskar asked Eli, "Do you want to go steady"
With the bad subtitles it's written, "Do I have a chance with you?" Now that sounds a bit promiscuous!

Problem is I'd have to watch the disc to find that out, and once a DVD is opened - they won't refund monies back.

Yes, it looks like this is the one to get. Like you and Jameron say, it has the correct subtitles and the commentaries for which I crave.
