We, The Infected

Hi everyone, new here and just thought I'd introduce myself. I first saw LTROI back in late 2008 when I was living in Europe. I had no idea what to expect, one of my neighbors just invited me to watch a movie that was from Sweden and winning a lot of awards. I like Sweden and good movies, so I said yes. When I got there, I found out it was a horror film, so I almost left (I usually hate them), but decided I would chance it. As soon as that opening scene with Oskar's reflection came on, I was enthralled. I was on the edge of my seat until the movie ended. It wasn't like any horror film I'd ever seen! Or like any film of any other genre, for that matter.

After that initial viewing, I thought about it from time to time, but it wasn't available on DVD and I was busy with my life, so it got pushed to the back of my mind. Fast forward to a couple months ago. I had been browsing Netflix, and LTROI popped up as suggested for me. I was so excited to see it again! I watched it right away, and was floored! Watching it by myself, I could really focus on it, and became deeply engrossed in the story. In the days that came, I could NOT stop thinking about it, and kept watching it over and over, sometimes as much as three times a day! Well, I keep waiting for that stage to pass, but it hasn't yet. I notice/learn something new every time I watch it. Then I began googling about the film, which is how I came across this site. I'm currently devouring your past discussions, and am looking forward to participating in future ones!

PS- I had a similar experience of not being able to get the story off my brain & wanting to watch the film repeatedly.

Thanks! I wonder what it is about this movie that affects people (some, anyway) so deeply and makes them want to watch it again and again? Besides just being a totally awesome movie, that is.

For me, I think it's how well it taps into/portrays what it's like to be an outcast, and to find a fellow survivor of such alienation. It shows us that beauty and love can thrive in the most unexpected places.

That's just one part, though...there are really so many levels to it!

That's the Big Question and drives a good deal of the discussion here. I'd venture to say that most of us feel it, but although we discuss it endlessly can't really explain it. Sounds like you are one of us. Welcome.

Defining the attraction is a bit like trying to remember something you know, but you've forgotten.
Very annoying when you can't quite put your finger on it, when you should be able to.
For people here, it's an intensely personal experience, which might explain why it's so very hard to elucidate.

Mind you, mulling over the film can have practical consequences.
My beloved Nissan Blue Bird this morning. Should have kept my mind on the road and not on the film.
I wasn't at fault - he turned in front of me (just as I figured it all out, then BAM - forgot it ) he took off but I got his number and went to the cops.
Hope he's insured.

My math test some weeks ago went really bad, cause I had LTROI on my mind during the whole day.
Welcome btw! The infection as we call it, I donno why it is like this. That it is so personal and well. Obsessive. Next month everybody, I have been infected for a whole year. I saw the movie three months before I signed in. By saying this, it proves at least that the infection can last a long whole. So don't wait for it to stop, enjoy it while you have it. Even though most of us has it for quite a while. Those of us who are very active is ofcourse are more infected or has less of a life than those of us who are here evey now and then.

One of the most exiting events that can happen here, I feel, is to infect somebody else. Cause that is really hard. Because it will be randomly since no one knows what it takes for one to get infected. I showed LTROI to my 16+ yearold class, and see why most adults are infected. Take God of Vampires, he's 18, right? Young adult then. .. Where was I..?
Well, this forum will for shure keep your infection well fed. Welcome again, it will be fun to see what new members can do around here.

That is why I thought it would be a bad idea for me to get a driver's licence, I am way to easily distracted

Actually, I am 20, I was 18 when I got infected though . Not that it actually matters, I am still a young adult .

You should have put yourself in Eli puzzle-solving mode, or was it history of mathematics the killer?
In Norway the history of mathematics is basically about different ways of writing numerals.
Textbook writers have too little knowledge (or time) to construct meaningful problems for pupils in that field.
The general feeling of teachers is “we have spent four lessons on roman numerals, can we go back to mathematics now?”
As a mathematics teacher, I feel for you intrige.

hello, i hadn't been infected for too long, you'll fit right in. I'm never the type that loves horror stories, but upon watching this, it was amazing. I myself couldn't stop thinking about it. But of couse, it hadn't affected my work (Phew). I have no idea how i got into it, but it was like Eli was going, "Cooommme.... coooommm... I have candies.... and a secret...."

My infection started after I picked up a copy of "Let Me In" from my local supermarket mid March, I thought it looked liked a very interesting movie. I didn't realise that I would get infected after watchin it. Afterwards I got a copy of the original Swedish movie "Let The Right One In" then I read the novel.
