!!spoilers!! I totally knew it.

Post by Twofaced » Thu Jan 20, 2011 9:44 am

When I first watched the original ltroi... i had a feeling that the older man elle lived with was her love. I guess it on this forum that I felt that he was not a father but a lover like elles neighbor young boy but grew old since elle doesnt age!
Reason why I brought this back up was I just watched american version let me in... and owen... the young boy neibor of abby... found the picture on the table with abby and another young boy with glasses whom i can only guess was the man who lived with her prior to the hospital incident. (note the old quality picture).

In both movies, you can see that the old man was affectionate about the young vampire girl. The scene where he goes for the last mission before he gets caught in both movies has the old man wanting the vampire girl not seeing the next door boy. At first movie, I assumed he was bit jealous... but Im sure he understood her feelings since he too fell in love with her when he was young.
Since his old age... Im sure he took the role of a father figure and did the dirty work for her to look out for her.

Offtopic: Actually Let me in was pretty similar to the original. I've heard from few ppl that it was suppose to be totally different story... only difference is the names and few parts left out, and few cast members that were different. over all both movies was good. I still think the original cast was better... although I admit, abby, in let me in grew on me as the movie progressed as well. :D

Hope everyone is having a great new year so far! sorry for the abruptness. wrote this on a short period of time right after watching let me in. I just had to air out a few things.
If anyone else wanna add anything go head!

You will most likely start seeing the vast differences between LtROI and LMI as you watch one(or both) films some more.

On your first few viewings, you mostly get the simple facts. Who, what, when, where, how, etc.
After a while, you start looking deeper. You start thinking of the grey/gray areas.

That's when you will see what most of the people here see. That LMI and LtROI are indeed, very different.
... she looks like a kid who has just been overindulgent with chocolate cake or a messy candy bar...
I could just picture Arnold planting a bloody kiss on Oskar telling him "I'll be back."

I loved that actor in Kick-Ass, not sure what her name is. Where did she get a cute chin like that....looks unnaturally cute.

My impression of the Swedish original is that neither the screen writer or the director set out to tell your version of the story but wound up with something that looked like that after the fact, especially Tomas Alfredson.

In the movie version we really don't know much at all about the man who gets blood for Eli. We would not even know his name except he is listed as "Hakan" in the credits. He is definitely jealous of Oskar.

The novel gives you the back story on this guy.

I'll break open the story and tell you what is there. Then, like the others that have fallen out onto the sand, I will finish with it, and the wind will take it away.

Run out and get a copy of the novel, now. It should be very enlightening. Enjoy.

I do realize the difference most ppl talk about. It's common sense. Two different era and place. I wasn't talking about the small stuff, but in general. When I heard it would be diffrent version, I expected total different events and mood. Come on now... am I the only one that thought the remake of the movie was really similar? The whole plot was pretty much the same other than few things left out... and different charecters (... in the movie life... i know the cast it self is different)

Funny, I felt the mood was different between the two movies. Granted, most of the events were similar, but they played out slightly different and many of the similarities are superficial.. For example, Eli shows great remorse after noming Jocke, but Abby is a complete animal in that scene, no emotion. It really makes a difference on how you view the character.

More importantly, the relationship between Eli & Håkan was very different from the relationship between Abby & the father. This alone really changes the whole story.
