In your blog you state: "People will do intense things to survive."

That's absolutely true. In light of the movie, an honest interpretation is that ultimately Oskar could be another Hakan. That is, after all, why JAL wrote LTODD, right? So there's nothing wrong with that. However, one has to look at both ends of the spectrum: both the movie and the book are about change and the capacity to change and adapt. So one also has to afford Eli the same chances. People will do intense things to survive. In Oskar, it's a physical change represented by wanting to grow, lifting weights, etc.. In Eli's case, it's an emotional change represented by allowing Oskar into his/her figurative (and literal, I guess) "inner chamber," as seen in the Eli's apartment scene.

I like to imagine that they seasonally work at a blood-bank with poor record-keeping skills.

I like this review a lot. I find it very informative for its relatively short length, and it leaves me with an urge to watch the film.

I particularly liked "The passion, excitement, and fear presented in Let the Right One In can be a bit overwhelming at times" - oh yeah.

Nice capsule review. I like the strategy of keeping it minimal. When I recommend this movie I try and say very little. No point in saying things like "this movie changed my life" etc. Let people find it in their own way. This is a sneaky little film in that respect.

With the passage of time I am hoping this film will come into its own and get the recognition it deserves.

I like your review of Night of the Living Dead. I have to go back and watch it again. There are now so many zombie movies and this is the great mother of them all.

Still, I risk adding a comment to your first review: Different interpretations like this is important for my great interest in this story.

Having watched the film three or four times, I came across a blog review with a discussion thread, going "La den rette komme inn - jeg lot den dessverre komme inn" AKA "Let the Right One In - I regret I let it in". The blogger was deeply touched by the film (like me), and she was infuriated by this manipulating vampire destroying poor Oskar's life. I was completely dumbfounded - this interpretation had not crossed my mind at all. Going back watching the film again, I could see/accept this interpretation on an intellectual level, but - without knowing why - it wasn't credible to me for as much as a second. This event increased my interest for this story even more, eventually leading me to this forum.

So there. Now we can go back to the subject change.

Nice review(s). Glad you put them out there. We have lots of discussion here on interpretation -- mostly good, sincere discussion since we've all been moved by this film in some way. Consensus is never as solid as it seems once we get into the details -- makes things interesting. One thing there is a real consensus about is making more infected. If there is a "canon", well, at least for me, this is it: Everyone should watch this film. So thank you for supporting Ing's True Canon .

I like to keep everything I write short. I could honestly write pages and pages on most films I watch, but no one will read them. I have to keep my audience in mind. I had actually written a completely different review on LTROI for The Reel Scoop and after all the discussion here, I felt the need to change it.

Part of me also feels this way. Not necessarily for the same reasons as this author, but because the film has effected me in more ways than I've realized. I love it when I film can do that. I have had a few chances to run up to my storage bin to grab my copy of the book, however I found myself making excuses not to. I'm rather scared that the book is going to reel me in and completely infect me..
