Re: at what point did u love the movie
I loved the film almost right away.
It got me when she came back and showed him how she did the Rubik's cube. Thought it was such a cute scene, the scene where she attacks Joche made me jump!

There were a lot of very touching moments in this film, this being one. It was especially amusing the way she sits up very proper when she sees Oskar, like she actually wants to be noticed, then the first thing she asks is if he thinks she smells better.SunButterfly wrote:I loved the film almost right away.It got me when she came back and showed him how she did the Rubik's cube. One telling scene that doesn't really get much attention is when Oskar peeks in on his mother when she is sleeping. Just turns on the light, looks at her, then turns it back off and walked out of the room as if he was saying a final goodbye to her.
I'm not sure if there was ever really one specific point, but rather the film as a whole that made me love it.

I love the way Oskar responds to Eli with that awkward, "aw-shucks" look. There were a lot of very touching moments in this film, this being one. It was especially amusing the way she sits up very proper when she sees Oskar, like she actually wants to be noticed, then the first thing she asks is if he thinks she smells better.

...and she gets out her smile - only to be snubbed again when she tells him her name and he goes like "Eli? What kind of name is this?"

Re: at what point did u love the movie
I liked her appearance in this scene - she never seems to look the same expression-wise from one scene to another. I don't know whether that was down to lighting, make up (or lack of it), or other factors, but this is the first scene where she looks like a little girl. And I loved the way she seemed to study him after telling him her name...TAPETRVE wrote:...and she gets out her smile - only to be snubbed again when she tells him her name and he goes like "Eli? I like the look on Eli's face when she asks, "Do you want me to show you?" (about solving the Cube). At last she's met someone who is interested in something she can do.

Re: at what point did u love the movie
I became "infected" almost from the very beginning. during the scene at the jungle gym, when oskar asked for her name. when she replied eli (I took it as elle, with the 2nd e sounding as an ay) but the expression on her face and even more the depth in her eyes, conveyed so much more. such as innocence, loneliness, and sadness. but it also looked as if she was suddenly optimistic about this new person in her life. one that she has waited for a long time to encounter.since that moment and (I stopped counting at 14 times) subsequent viewings I have been hopelessly in love with the story and the movie. when I was almost 5 I went through something very devestating and almost did not survive it, but the lasting effect from that situation has left me not feeling a apart of the rest of the world, and I am just not meant to fit in. I do not remember how or when but N.R Gasan (thank you) invited me to the site about a year ago. while it has always been anonymous and I have never posted til now, I visit the site regularly. at least for awhile I get to free myself from my own loneliness and sadness and feel apart of something.the others here that have fallen for something as beautiful as LTROI as I have. I say thanks to all of you that have come here and shared your own lives, and views on this incredible piece of art.

Re: at what point did u love the movie
LTROI was in my Netflix Instant Watch queue for a while. I read the synopsis. Boy meets a vampire girl. Boy befriends the vampire girl. And I thought, "a lonely boy meets vampire girl and they becomes friends. And than bullies and than revenge." Been there, done that. I didn't watch it for a long time. I finally got around to it one night, and I watched the first 10 minutes or so. Slow, slow, slow. I stopped watching and I let the movie rest for few more weeks.
And than I finally watched it. I had enough free time, and I wanted to see it through. First time, I watched it, I gave it 4 star. It was good. It was different, but I didn't quite know if I liked it or not. But curiously enough, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I watched it the second time. Paying much more attention, this time. And it bit me. Kicked my butt. I loved it. I really loved it. Not since Blade Runner did I go ga-ga over a movie. Blade Runner or LTROI. Hmmm.. Wow.. That is tough. I revisited the Netflix rating and gave LTROI 5 stars. I lowered all the other movies I rated as 5 stars to 4 stars as this movie is just too darn good. Bought and read the book. Bought the DVD. Joined this forum. Read fan fiction. I lost about 2 weeks of work because I was obsessed with LTROI.
Anyway, I love that bedroom scene when Eli visits Oskar in his bed. At the end of the night, you can see Eli's hand traveling down Oskar's shoulder and arm as she thinks about "going steady", I imagine. And she holds his hand.. Fingers intertwined, her thumb gently caressing his finger. I know it was an obvious symbolism, but I loved it. She made a commitment to him than and there, and she kept it.

Re: at what point did u love the movie
For me, it was the end of the film where we see Oscar and Eli (in her sun shield) together. I remember first seeing the scene with the snow falling after the pool scene and getting mildly upset thinking I was going to be left hanging. That really did it for me. I told my Girlrfiend this was the perfect love story with a perfect ending whereupon she declared me morbid.
