Funny story you sheared, thanks :D Yeah I have showed the movie to someone who thought Eli was scary. My first respond to that was: "No, she's cute?" Ur blind?? :o Hehe, people are different. Soem love it (Us) some hate it, and some get scared. Mostly people like it, but not enough to get infected. Also, I have met some who simply thought it was weired.. And didn't want to get it either. Gah..

I'm in the process of infecting my little sister right now. I got a very positive response to the film so now we are in phase two as I just gave her the book.

Got a couple friends interested in reading the book and watching the movie. It's so exiting, not so much the prospect of them getting infected as the fact they have never heard of it. It's like vicariously discovering it all over again. :) I'll post an update if anything noteworthy comes of it.

A short documentation of my latest LOTRO sharing experience:

I showed LTROI to one of my friends last night (21 years old), and her perception was that it was a very sad film. I must classify this somehow as a "raw" viewing. By this I mean I gave no details of the story line or plot. We were simply talking about vampire movies at some point in the past and I said "you should come over sometime and I'll show you a real vampire movie". There was no exaggerated build up of expectations, only that it was one of my favorites. Since that conversation she had been adamant adamant on watching it with me, seemed immensely curious about it. She was completely silent through the entire film, and gave it her full attention all the way through. (it was 3 in the morning, so I was worried she might drift off to sleep)

Afterwards, there was some dialogue about bullying and being bullied, and we both shared our own experiences at length, during which she disclosed that she was in fact a bully all through school, and freely gave her explanation as to why she thinks she did this, the circumstances of her life that let her to be hostile towards others, and that she had later tried to apologize to everybody she had hurt. Unfortunately can't say how she truly felt about the film, or what effect it may have had other than acting as a catalyst for dialogue.

It was interesting to watch with somebody else as there was indeed a vicarious re-discovery and subsequent effect similar to the first time I saw it, in that I was noticeably depressed afterwards, but also very tired, and so was able to sleep it off. But it was strangely pleasant to re-experience that sort of sadness again.

I reckon that she is probably infected but whether it is positive or not time will tell. I can understand why she feels sad I guess you would feel guilty if you were able to project your experience as a bully onto LTROI. I would imagine that you would feel awful if you thought that you could have caused someone as much suffering as the bullies did to Oskar. Due to this it may be too painful for her to watch it again. It is a masterpiece that will have a profound affect on anyone who is open to experiencing stories or film in a deeper sense. That is my reasoning on why some people watch it and are infected and others don't give it a second thought.

My sister is reading the book now so that is good news. I knew she would love it. I'm going to attempt to infect my Dad too when he comes to visit this week. :D

My girlfriend just didn't get it. I thought she might and even threw in a few pointers along the way. All she had to say at the end was 'hmm, he'll change his mind about her(Eli) when he turns 16'. Disappointing really. :(

:( what a bummer. At least you managed to find the rest of us infected though :)

The girl I mentioned before... She came back over and watched LMI with a couple other friends (they'd already seen it and like it), said she liked the Swedish one better because it was far more artistic and made her cry more (I hadn't noticed). She said the bedroom scene was particularly moving for her.

Be warned, when kids get infected they are very different from US getting infected. We gather objects, like cubes, books and we write FFs and make art and live this infection inside our head. Also because everybody who met us would think we were crzy,. if we didn't hold back. To put it that way
But kids, that's something a whole lot different-. Not only does LTROI question right and wrong in a very twisted manner, but it also tend to live in their games too. They play it out, and it might even seem like they have lost track of the differences of let's say Real children, and O&E. But at the same time I don't see much harm in it when it creates a connection between you and your child.
LOL I seem like an expert now XD

Well the story is that I hve an 11yearold niece who is very much infected. She used to play that she bit me in the neck and twisted my head. Or make us play out the scenes, and quote the lines. It was great fun for me ofcourse. But sometimes she could jump from the couch saying: I am flying like Eli. Or she would tell me about traveling to sweden, find O&E and steal Oskar from Eli. Or at least make him share Oskar. So Eli and her could become the best of friends, I mean. It can be a bit overwelming too, and be prepered of their playful and not so develloped infection. It's like JAL have said many times in his interviews: They are inbetween a blurry line between what's reality and what's not. If my niece (espesially NOW) saw someones mouth coverd with blood, out at night, she might think about a vampire. I would think about someone getting beaten up. (I have no idea what she would think, but that's an great example of the theory JAL pulls put in his books) So yeah. 8-) 8-)
