Welcome to We the Infected Jim Nolt. 8-)
The infection just keeps on spreading. :D

Jim, I was aware that there was a movie named Let the Right One In because I read a review of it in a lit review (NYR, I think) soon after it came out. So the review was probably early 2009. There it sat in the back of my mind. In March of this year I saw it on Showtime, set my DVR to record the next showing, bought a streaming version of it from Amazon, and haven't missed a day of watching at least parts of it since. I was hooked by the time Eli jumped down from the jungle gym. I began reading blogs (or blah-gs, it should be) and reviews. In July I stumbled across We, the Infected, and I have been in good company ever since. The forum includes members with deep feelings, with wide experiences of life, and with sharp intellects. Ages range--I think--from 13 to 70. Wolfchild would know. Both genders are well represented, and members live on six of the seven continents.

One thing, though, I haven't read the book. I've gone in a different direction. I looked into learning Swedish to feel closer to the characters. Turns out, it's a lot easier than German--greatly simplified cases and familiar subject-verb-object word order (No offense, TAPETRVE). I just bought a Blu-ray version. Beautiful. And the words are easier to hear, which helps me with the Swedish. My direction is to go deeper into experiencing the film. I read interesting comments here about the book, about LMI, and other goodies, but the film is proving to be a deep well for me, so I continue to drink from it.

So welcome. I look forward to reading more about your experiences with the film, the book, and whatever else LTROI leads you to.

Hi Jim, sounds like you are presenting with an infection. :)

I'll break open the story and tell you what is there. Then, like the others that have fallen out onto the sand, I will finish with it, and the wind will take it away.

Thanks for the welcome, Nightrider. I am amazed at the emotion generated by the two young actors in their roles of Oskar and Eli. When I watched the movie the first time I failed to understand most of what was taking place because, I think, I was so focused on Eli and Oskar. Kåre Hedebrant is remarkable from his first encounter with Lina Leandersson. And Eli had me from the moment Oskar walked away and she demonstrated that look of hunger (but obviously would not prey on Oskar). You just have to love Eli.

This past weekend I watched "Let Me In," and although I enjoyed it, the film doesn't have the same emotional appeal as "Let The Right One In." Eli may be a little "ragamuffin" who smells funny, but for that reason I cared about her. Abby is, to my thinking, made to look too pretty.

Another fabulous component of the movie is the soundtrack which I downloaded from Amazon and listen to as I reread the book.

Jim
Don't get me started on the film's music. Johan Soderqvist's soundtrack for LTROI is nothing less than a masterpiece.
The compositions not only have that rare ability to affect the listener on deeply emotional level, but also induce immediate recall of key scenes from the movie.
Certainly one of the best movie soundtracks ever created.

Oh gosh, Nightrider, no argument on the soundtrack from me. I have it on my computer, on my phone, and on a CD in my clock radio so I can listen to it as I re-read the book when I go to bed... and it's set to wake me in the morning. I get a funny feeling in my stomach when I hear any of the tracks. Beautiful indeed.

I live in a third-floor apartment that is perhaps a tad smaller, but not too much unlike the one in which Oscar and his mother live. A small play area can be seen from my window. In a few months, after the arrival of the winter's first snow, I wonder... just wonder... if I'll find Oskar and Eli sitting side by side playing with a Rubick's Cube.

The past two have been mild with hardly any snow. Perhaps this one will be more like it should be.
