And yes he does pose a real threat to Eli. What scared me about his bathroom scene wasn't his silly penknife, but when he pulls the cover off the window and lets the sunlight streaming in. I jumped the first time I saw that. I honestly didn't know how it was going to turn out.

Re: The Lacke question
Lacke is a bum. That is pretty much the character right there. In the movie the actor playing him didn't really make him very interesting for me. Lacke talks a good game about sticking by your friends etc. (foreshadowing Eli and Oskar), but the man is seriously lacking (
) when it comes to making a commitment to someone. (there is some mention of that by Virginia in the novel). Wolfchild posted something about him not missing the water till the well runs dry.

I'll break open the story and tell you what is there. Then, like the others that have fallen out onto the sand, I will finish with it, and the wind will take it away.

Re: The Lacke question
Lacke was dead to me as soon as he pulled back the covers and there was a shot of Eli curled up in the tub with a stuffed bunny.
C'mon, no one can be rooting for him after that.

Easter is coming up so I'm worried about a terrorist attack.

If what ACL said Love conquer Justice, or should say override our sense of justice, then I say our infected sense of love for Oskar & Eli is ..." selfish " ??
If TA said the adults are on the perimeter not getting involved, then Lacke may be the only one " trying " to do something. So I will side w/ Danielma, Lacke is a tragic figure.

BtVS is Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Anya was a character who was afraid bunnies.Anya from BtVS comes to mind.

Me too.Nicro wrote:Totally agree.danielma wrote:Actually kind of applies to Virgina and Lacke just as much as it does to Oskar and Eli. Where as Oskar and Eli Flee for Life, Lacke and Virginia are kind of the result of the oppesite "To Linger is Death"
I felt that their storie was a real nice counterpart for Oskar and Eli in some ways. And in this result I found Lacke to be somewhat Tragic and Human. He fits in line with every character, no one is a perfect angel in this film, everyone is flawed and everyone is very human.
So for this reason I ended up liking Lacke and feeling a little something for him and his friends
But from the beginning Eli was just Eli. Nothing. Anything. And he is still a mystery to me. John Ajvide Lindqvist

I love Anya.
And I did like Lacke, if anyone deserved to kill Eli he did, doesn't mean I rooted for him.

Anya was a vengeance demon, wasn't she, before becoming human again and hooking up with what's-his-face, Xander?thestich wrote:BtVS is Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Anya was a character who was afraid bunnies.Anya from BtVS comes to mind.

Re: The Lacke question
I actually did feel sympathy for Lacke in the book, but in the movie his character is too distant to really feel with him. In the book however, I really did feel bad for him. It made the story more bittersweet: Eli is giving Oskar a soulmate, but at the same time she's taking away the soulmates of someone else.
