Paper Walls: US Release?

Post by Nightrider » Wed Jul 27, 2011 8:01 pm

I just got off the phone with Macmillan Publishing, the owners of St.Martin's Press. I was told that "Paper Walls" by John Ajvide Lindqvist is in their system on the list of books to be released. The actual date of the release was not available.....Soooo...At this point onlly time will tell when this book will see the light of day in US, even though I keep hearing persistent rumors that official release will take place at the end of the year.
That's all for now. Over and out.
This was posted by me in early July. Ever since then I was visiting our local bookstores with questions about "Paper Walls" possible US release.
So far the only thing that I was able to find is that "Paper Walls" does not show up in any of the bookstores computers which probably means that the book will not show up this year.

Does anyone know if there is a site carrying the Swedish that would ship to US?

Here's an interesting bit of info I stumbled on recently.
On the website called OPINIONLESS there'sa review of Itsy Bitsy.
One of the the two responses to the review was by Marlaine Delargy(or somebody claiming to be Marlaine Delargy), who as you all probably know as translator of JAL's books.
This is what she had to say
Marlaine Delargy
I didn’t know this was out, or anything about the change of title! I’ve translated the whole of Paper Walls for Text Publishing in Melbourne, but as far as I know they haven’t done any editing yet, and the collection isn’t due out until autumn 2012. It will also include a sequel to Let The Right One In, taken from a different collection.
So does this mean that Autumn 2012 is the release date for Paper Walls? At least in Australia?

Here's a link to the website:http://www.opinionless.com/book-review- ... tsy-bitsy/

I also did an interview with Marlaine Delargy where she talks a bit about John and some changes that had to be made to Harbour which you can find here:

Good inteview. Translators are an important part of publishing process, yet they are rarely mentioned at all.

PAPER WALLS - LINDQVIST, JOHN A.
Just a soft breath of fear to break down those certainties, and we realize how weak they can be our beliefs, our habits. Our ability to reason, our rationality, Paper Walls.
The writer turns up a bit 'nose in the face of story collections, let alone a trovarsene of 477 p. But having enjoyed the previous Lindqvist I opened the book with excitement and enthusiasm I've leafed through the pages without getting frustrated.
A reading enjoyable, pleasant. The author gives us a ride in his Sweden, presents a host of characters who find themselves in strange situations. We find here the characters of Let the Right , so you understand what's happened, we find a controller of the trams, a witness to the happiness of a married couple, linked by a sad story, we learn of a security officer of the port which has odd manias and the ability to hear the thoughts and anxieties of others, we meet a man who goes mad after his shipwreck, we encounter fear, joy, magic, the supernatural, death.
The stories are developed slowly, Lindqvist makes us witnesses of the various events with objectivity, it creates anxiety in the reader, but the story builds slowly so as to create the proper tension needed to keep reading.
The certainty that you have in life are for us a refuge, a warm shelter from the anxieties, the things that sconosciamo. E 'can be in contact with the supernatural? the boundary between fiction is reality, reason and madness is really well defined? Either we are only protected by walls of paper?
The author concentrates here the themes dear to him, and aside from a few flashes and zombesco strictly horror, he worked hard on the daily lives of characters on real life events that intersect with the paranormal, without exaggeration, sometimes without even esplicitarne too how, as if he only wanted to show the evil and madness that surrounds us without the possibility of rebellion.
"Stories that I wrote on my paper walls, the thin walls that separate us from all that we can not explain the other. They are tales of love and death. They talk about how we react when love and death collide and monsters emerge from their hiding places. Happy reading! "John Ajvide Lindqvist
