The reviewer refuses to see the novel as a satire...Some people just don't get it.....Not a single character acts like a real person. The only reason Lindqvist’s characters behave the way they do is that if any of them did what anyone of us would do IRL—namely, drop off that sociopathic little girl at the nearest police station—is that it would immediately end the book. It’s the same reason horny teenagers go off to make out in Jason Vorhees-infested campgrounds – not because hormone-addled 18-year-olds love getting it on in haunted forests but because if they don’t you don’t have a movie. Which means if you’re going to have characters do something completely ridiculous, you’re going to need to give a viable reason why.

No one acts like a real person...really??? Granted, I have never been a teenage girl, but going from what I've heard then there is a lot about Teresa that screams of reality...mainly the puberty aspect...the lack of esteem due her somewhat overweight appearance, the weird conflicted feelings of watching a friend date another girl, the pain of puberty as a whole...that all seemed very real to meNightrider wrote:http://www.tor.com/blogs/2012/10/think- ... -lindqvist

I thought the character's motivations made sense given who they were.
