Is this a common name in Sweden? The choice of the character's name was intentional I think. The Czech conducter-composer wrote a set of songs titled Kindertotenlieder or "Songs on the death of children."

Mahler is a very uncommon surname, only 39 hits.
You are probably right that the choice of name isn't coincidental.
