I stumbled onto this French film made in 2004. It's called Les Revenants(They Came Back). HTU came out in 2005. French film though released in '04 was probably made in late 2002-03. Who got there first? I don't know, but if HTU is ever made into a movie, it will possibly look something like this...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0378661/

PS : This movie is available on HULU.

Just finished watching this film on HULU. This very cool French film seems to have been an inspiration fo JAL's "Handling The Undead". It's almost a blueprint for film version of HTU. I'm sure Lindquist have seen this film before writing his book. Similarities in the plot are not a coincidence. I am talking about huge parts of the film showing up in HTU. I don't think it's plagiarism, but it's not a homage either. Why don't you decide. It's available on HULU for free.

Pretty cool. I wish I was up to speed on HTU, but it's been about a year at least since I've read it.

If you remember just the main, bare bones details of the book and check out that French film everything will fall into place. I was watching the movie and kept thinking : "This is from the book...and this is too...and so is this". That's how familiar everything about this film was.

Did they have a scene where the main character digs up his son?

No, but the movie has a plotline with a little boy that comes back from the dead. Film has father and mother instead of book's grandfather and mother, but film's father really wants his boy to be alive in spite of obvious strange behaviour the kid displays.
Clearly the book is not exact replica of the film, but tons of details, ideas and story lines are directly from the movie.

Nope, hadn´t seen the film while writing Handling the undead (It was written in 2002-2003). Just after the book came out, someone told me about this film and I watched it. I never really understood what happened in the end and overall I found it quite ... french. Don´t get me wrong, I do like french movies and I think Martyrs and Inside are some of the most iportant horror movies to come along in years, but this one was a tad to intellectualized for me.

Fair enough.
The film kept me going up untill the end where the director semeed to drop the ball....and nothing happened.
Did you think there were similarities between the book and the movie?
Because I find quite a few analogous bits in both?......
By the way...is this really you???
