Gregory Peck, David Niven, Anthony Quinn, Stanley Baker and others.

Hadn't seen this in ages. It has a very 60's feel to it, which I guess is kinda unavoidable since it was made in 1961.

Did anyone ever have the Guns of Navarone playset? ;)

Never get tired of this one. Didn't know there was a toy set. Cool, except yellow guns are a little off putting.

I'll break open the story and tell you what is there. Then, like the others that have fallen out onto the sand, I will finish with it, and the wind will take it away.

Hmm... This playset is for children aged 4 to 10. Were 10-year-olds even allowed to see the film? Or was this kit designed for the 10-at-heart? :D

Look what I found Pete...It's a pretty elaborate set. I wonder which of those little guys is Gregory Peck?

Really impressed by the variety of poses of the soldiers. And a lot more. Sublime, in its way. Have any other films received such a thorough treatment?

Greg Peck. One of my favorite actors. The toy set in original box is probably worth a fortune these days.I can't think of any movies that did the same thing with toys. It's very detailed with what looks like specific poses for specific positions in the set.Would have loved it when I was a boy.
Please Oskar.Be me for a little while.

Funny how, in the hands of the Marx Company, a conflict in Greece between the Germans and the Brits somehow morphed into 'The Sands of Iwo Jima.'

Wow! I had a lot of toy soldiers as a kid, from snipers to guys throwing hand grenades; but nothing that came close to this.

Years ago when she was about 4 or 5 I bought my youngest daughter a packet of cheap cowboy and indian figures. There were about 200 hundred of them and really cheap. When I opened the packet I was a little shocked to see all the cowboys were shooting the Indians.Who were twisted and contorted as they were being shot. The cowboys all had guns and the Indians spears and bows and arrows. So I sat down and for the next hour or so clipped off all the weapons with nail clippers.Guess what. They all looked like they were dancing,so for the next couple of years my daughter would have little disco scenes and parties with them. She loved it.haha..

Coolest idea I've seen in a while.

For gender balance, I bought race cars for my granddaughter. She liked to play with them, but she soon characterized them as the father car, the mother car, the big brother, and the little sister. IOW, by the time she was a toddler, she was all-in with being a girl.

I also introduced her to things that live under rocks in my yard -- worms and stuff. That was a bust. :)

I just love this film to bits.
