Re: So what about the other stories?
It seems that once again I have to accept that a story in LTODD/Paper Walls has gotten a crap name in English, this time it's Village on the hill. I think Vertical Village would be a bettar name, since it refers to the flat block, which obviously can be seen as a number of houses/homes stacked on to...

So what about the other stories?
I realise that the English release is still fresh on the shelves, and that most readers are most eager to read the title story (LTODD) but having read all the stories since long in Swedish I'm extremely eager to hear what you all think of the other stories in the book. Don't forget for instance that...

Paper Walls vs Let The Old Dreams Die - join subforums?
OK, I'd just like to address a potential reason for confusion regarding JAL's short story collection(s). A summary: In Swedish, JAL has published two short story collections, Pappersväggar (Paper Walls) and Låt De Gamla Drömmarna Dö (Let The Old Dreams Die). In English, all of the stories in Paper W...

Re: Discussion (spoilers)
It could also happened by accident. Maybe they were just there for vacations, spending their last moments together, when maybe Stefan decides to take a photograph, and later when they see it, there in the background are Eli and Oskar. Or they do meet with Eli and Oskar and then that way Karin and S...

Re: Finally read the novel and yes there will be spoilers.
"The Final Handling" is included in upcoming "Let The Old Dreams Die" as "The final processing" . Aha, good to finally have an official English title for the story, that makes it easier to discuss. I sort of would have preferred 'The Final Handling' though since it's more of a proper translation of...

Glad you finally got to read this story and that you liked it. And I largely agree with your analysis of the topics of the novel - the last of which (Hope) I'd say is elaborated on even more in the epilogue short novel The Final Handling which I hope you'll have a chance to read as well.

Re: TA to direct The Brothers Lionheart
Yeah but it's not the same as deliberately committing suicide, which is effectively what the two brothers do at the end. I grant you that. Still, for me who was four when the book was published and who grew up with it (nor sure when I first had it read to me, probably when I was 5 or 6) it has alwa...

Re: TA to direct The Brothers Lionheart
I finished the book last night. Overall, I thought it was good and I can see why Tomas and JAL would be interested. I was weirded out by some bits, mainly the ending in which the two brothers effectively commit suicide together to get to yet another magical place. I can only imagine the uproar if C...

Re: Just finished reading...
I kept waiting for Flora and Elvy to have some kind of reunion with Tore but it never happened. That whole storyline doesn't really seem to have an ending. It just stops. I mean, what happens to the reliving that are marching towards the city? It all starts sounding very ominous towards the end. It...

Re: TA to direct The Brothers Lionheart
I read the synopsis of The Brothers Lionheart on Wiki....Wow, heavy stuff for a children's book. I gather, since the new movie version will be a Swedish production it's going to stick close to the source novel. Just think....if this film catches on with the public an inevitable Hollywood re-make wi...
