Re: Do you think Oskar might regret his decision in life?

We all romanticise the relationship between Oskar and Eli. We all romanticise the choice that Oskar made. I try not to, personally. It's certainly a beautiful happy ending and the only one I want and feel is appropriate for them. But I also try to keep an honest view of what it would be in reality,...

Re: A Cold Winter's Night (Let Me In)

I feel a bit bad I seemed to have missed the forum's heyday haha. Yeah, I can relate to that, as someone who also came in relatively recently. But it is what it is, as Eli would say. It's a small miracle that after the first story anyone wants to read the rest of the collection. Aw, don't be too ha...

Re: A Cold Winter's Night (Let Me In)

Welcome to the forum! Always good to see another lurker come in from the cold. I meant to comment on this earlier, but wanted to take the time to think about the stories some more first. I should preface this by saying that I haven't watched LMI and therefore don't think I'm particularly qualified t...

Re: Frustrated by the way the person who made this video sees Eli, and the things he does, related to feeding, etc.

I haven't got that far, in the book. But, I've read that Eli is absolutely a boy. That cannot be refuted. In the novel, Eli and the omniscient narrator never describe the character as anything other than han ("he"). In other words, Eli is certainly a "he" in the way JAL wrote the book. I'm not so s...

Re: Frustrated by the way the person who made this video sees Eli, and the things he does, related to feeding, etc.

I read two different years, 81 and 82. I would have been either 8/9 or 9/10, the year the movie was set in. It's autumn 1981 in the book. In the film, the date is moved to a few months later ("6th of February 1982" is briefly visible in the newspaper in the scrapbook scene). Here's the real artisti...

Re: LTROI tumblr art

I see. I'll admit, I've never managed to wrap my head around how Tumblr works. And no worries--I can imagine compiling all the images in the first place is a lot of work as-is.

Re: LTROI tumblr art

I'd never taken the time to look through this thread from start to finish before. There's great stuff on almost every page, but I think the pieces that resonate with me the most are the ones that diverge from the film. Not that there's anything wrong with the film-inspired artwork (I myself don't ha...

I meant this as a reply with a quote included. Why can't I delete my own comment? There should be an "Edit post" button on your own posts. There's a "Delete post" option underneath the edit window. You can also add quotes to an existing post while editing—you don't need to delete and repost it (wor...

Re: Problem posting pics

Not familiar with how Dropbox works. Personally, I use Imgur, which I think is stabler and more reliable than most alternatives. That said, they recently announced that they'll start purging content that's not tied to an active account on their site, so I'll have to re-upload all the pictures I've p...
