It's a "Don't mess with someone I love" situation. I had a math professor in college, ask us if we could kill anybody, a bunch of hands went up, then she asked who had children, most of the same hands went up. Love can make you do a lot of things, to include ripping off heads.

I would say that an actor's ability to play Eli would not depend upon any intrinsic characteristic of the actor (other than perhaps a youthful appearance). Also, there is a writers prerogative to tweak things. The lore changes with overtime and with each author and director. A prime example is "book/movie-that-shall-not-be-name" with sparkly vegetarian vampires.

One of the directors for LTROI play in Provo,Christopher Clark, passed away on the 6th of June from ALS. He established and taught theater at Utah Valley University and was involved in many community plays. He was married for 25 years and has 5 children.
