Re: "Two weeks earlier"

Well he's usually the level-headed and articulate voice in the podcast, which is why my curiosity was piqued. The whole thread is pretty negative and I guess there is some valid criticism to be found (the post just before this guy's is very funny and the part about the nurses made me laugh quite a b...

Re: "Two weeks earlier"

Ah, thank you guys. A curious choice for the film to start with a flash forward to that particular scene, but still I wonder why he was so mad about it.

"Two weeks earlier"

So while browsing through a few forums where I lurk from time to time I came across this rather visceral comment on Let Me In (not exactly a review) by a guy who regularly does podcasts on movies and has shown in the past to have tastes similar to mine: http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showpo...

Re: The soundtrack

There's a Japanese phrase for what it brings out - 物の哀れ (Mono no aware). Roughly translating to "a sensitivity to ephemera", or "the 'ahh-ness' of things," Ash, I wonder if you are "aware" (hah) of the existence of this song from American band Hammock. The clip surfaced a couple years ago on the IM...

Re: Infected?

I know it might be seen as a snide damning with faint praise, but I've come round to being grateful to Matt Reeves; the Hollywood machine was always going to snap up a jewel like this, and I shudder to think just how much worse it could have been. He did his best to save it and to give it his own s...

Re: JAL at Litteraturhuset, Oslo, Feb. 23.

During the talk, John told about this tune he had on repeat while writing Harbour (played it 666 times). Here it is, Lifelines by A-ha fkHlS4Pl440  I love that song. I was a huge A-Ha fan back in the day but I lost track of them after Memorial Beach. Fast forward to last year when I discover...

Re: On audience reactions, translation subtleties, etc

So that's why Eli asks for clarification! :o Folks here have speculated so much on Eli's reaction, but it seems the truth is that Oskar is an Argentine and Eli is Mexican and it was simply a confusion over slang. LOL. That would actually explain the whole scene! I checked my copy, and t...

Re: On audience reactions, translation subtleties, etc

Of course! Damn, I forgot about the use of 'vos.' But you'd probably noticed if they used Mexican usage for that, so I presume we watched different sets of subtitles (and I'm pretty sure another set must've been used in Spain). Ah, but actually the "vos" is used in colloquial everyday speech; you r...

Re: On audience reactions, translation subtleties, etc

Interesting, I don't remember exactly what translation they used for the "going steady" bit... I do remember being furious about the mangling of the "do you do something different when you go steady?" line, though. In my view that almost ruined that perfect moment in the scene. And you're right - "¿...
