Re: I Love Eli!

Hi again guys. I've always found the concept of powerful child quite confronting (and intriguing) in films and novels as that runs counter to society's usual portrayal of child/adult power imbalance.... the unicorn wild beast that can only be tamed by a virgin etc. So films like The Bad Seed, Kick A...

Re: Reflections on the Novel

Ultimately dealing with tragedy is the theme I took the most from the book . Perhaps so but the ending of the film, and to a lesser extent the novel, promises the hope of a new life together. Both have a kind of happy ending or at least the hope that one in the future is possible. Maybe I'm just a ...

Too bad you weren't here a few years back Jessy. I had a a copy signed by JAL in London and re-gifted it to another member here, can't remember who. From memory, the postage to the US was many times what the book cost 😖.

Re: Some new(?) images from the film

A member here, I don't remember which, bought some of Eli's clothes from the film and showed them to us. It's pretty evident that Eli, for obvious reasons, didn't care about what he looked like, or personal hygiene for that matter, until he met Oskar, so the film-clothes are pretty much in keeping w...

Re: Watching the film this morning

Yes it's been years since I thought I left LTRIO behind me but it didn't turn out that way. It still holds a very special place in my heart and my life that I can't leave behind after all these years.
I confess I don't really know why that is. Maybe it's better that way.

Re: Witnessing Eli's brutality in the pool

Oh boy! I can't believe (and so happy) this site is still up and running after so many years after leaving it. Hi Jameron, cmflirelies, metoo, long time no see. Is intrige still active? She was so insightful. I suppose it's like in Terminator 2, not being trite here, anyone who posed a treat to Oska...

With sadness

It breaks my heart to see this board slowly disappearing while so much remains unsaid. I left here years ago because much of the arguments became superficial to the essence of the novel and film. But perhaps as Eli and Oskar have now passed into adulthood in our collective minds it seems right that ...

Re: How has ltroi affected your life?

Tolerance, or more correctly, "acceptance" are also the things I got from the film/novel. I work with kids Eli's age and would often give them a blast for the stupid, immature things they did. Since LTROI I'm still flabbergasted by their antics but my frustration no longer match the words I say. I'm...
