Re: A pedophiles thoughts about LTROI

Okay, I've lost the thread here. The discussion has gone on so long that it has become too convoluted for me to follow. Boy what a thread.I think my brain might explode.. My head did explode, but I've put it back together. I'm putting some more rounds in the revolver and starting over again. ...

Re: A pedophiles thoughts about LTROI

I'm not sure why this should make you feel resentful. Do you see Eli as being a worse monster than Zombie Håkan? You asked the question, and I answered it based on the evidence from the text. Maybe it was improper for me to speak for Phobos, but I thought his complaint was pretty obvious. Shakespea...

Re: A pedophiles thoughts about LTROI

thanks gattoparde59, good to know that there is an advocate for my point of view. After reading JAL´s statement i feel some kind off relief, but it´s still a mixed kind of opinion. I praise JAL attemps to handle a dificult topic. But also i can see all the people out there reading the book saying "...

Re: A pedophiles thoughts about LTROI

I don't think LTROI treats pedophilia that deeply. It is shown in a more pulpy way and for shocking-repulsive value. I mean, pedophillia is part of the HORROR in the book, Hakan the pedophile, at the end of the day is the absolut monster, although I do see his story as a tragedy. I think that sums ...

Re: Whats in Eli’s head?

Oskar wakes up something in Eli. Eli begins to wake up from where he has been; he starts to change. To directly answer the question posed by the title of the original post, we know what is in Eli's head because Eli gets to cheat and (other than being in a novel with an omniscient author) he can tra...

Re: The enigma of Mr Ávila

The other thing I remember about Avila is the way his character parallels Eli. They both have an odd way of speaking and are both "foreign" to modern day Sweden. Both take an interest in Oskar who values their perception of him. There is a scene in gymnastics class where Avila praises Oskar, just as...

Re: The enigma of Mr Ávila

I vaguely recall Spanish troops fighting with the Germans on the Eastern Front in World War II. I googled them and this was the volunteer Spanish Blue Division. It turns out there was also a "Blue Squadron" of Fascist pilots who fought with the Luftwaffe on the Eastern Front. I'm not clear what beca...

Re: Are Frankenstein's Monster and Eli the same?

I just got off work, and my body hurts, and my brain is numb. There've got to be quite a number of conditions under which Eli (or anybody) could be moved to a murderous rage that have nothing to do with romance, religion or politics. Maybe I could nudge other board members to suggest a few? In the ...
