Re: Reinfection
I've not ready anything by Mari Jungstedt. Do you have a suggested starting point? I was not impressed by her first book, Unseen , and turned to other authors and other settings for a time. But because, for myriad reasons, I found myself being drawn back to Sweden, I picked up her second, Unspoken ...

Re: Reinfection
Interesting how one infection can lead to another. After being bitten by Lindqvist, I developed an intense interest in Sweden in general and the stories from Mari Jungstedt in particular. Her murder mysteries are set on the island of Gotland in the Baltic, not far from Stockholm. I've read five of h...

Re: Reinfection
intrigue, I understand. And you are correct about wanting to be more understanding of children. I was a school teacher for thirty years and although I sometimes failed, I tried to take my students seriously. (They were, like Oscar and Eli, twelve years old more or less.) So often we adults are quick...

Re: Reinfection
I think epseially for us young infected, LTROI has its inprint on us and might change how we view things through out our adult lives. I daresay that I am no longer young, yet "Let The Right One In" has had a profound effect on my thinking and everyday actions too. I watched the movie many times ove...

Re: Reinfection
What manner of being is a vampire? I met my first vampire in 1957. I was about Oskar's age... maybe a shade younger. It was late on a Saturday night. Everyone else had gone to bed, and I was left to deal with it alone. And that's just the way I wanted it. I prefered to be alone. And besides, he seem...

Re: Reinfection
The past two have been mild with hardly any snow. Perhaps this one will be more like it should be.

Re: Reinfection
I live in a third-floor apartment that is perhaps a tad smaller, but not too much unlike the one in which Oscar and his mother live. A small play area can be seen from my window. In a few months, after the arrival of the winter's first snow, I wonder... just wonder... if I'll find Oskar and Eli sitt...

Re: Last image with Eli and Oscar together
Boys do form close and deep bonds with one another, at least on occasion, in contexts where sex isn't even a remote possibility. I believe such bonds are much rarer than what often happens between girls. Boy with such bonds probably wouldn't say "I love you" (at least, not in the primarily Germanic...

Re: Reflections on this film... after falling in love
Envious indeed. Even though I was married for 32 years... they were empty years. I never have (and probably never will) experienced anything close to the affection Oskar and Eli feel. But it is a joy to share theirs.

Re: Reflections on this film... after falling in love
I discovered "Let The Right One In" only a few weeks ago and have watched it six times since. Although I never experienced that kind of love... and for that reason I become so very emotionally involved in the film. Oskar and Eli were able to find a love few people (in my experience anyway) ever find...
