The "Twilight" protagonists don't get to experience any trials. Sure, there was a moment at the end of the movie when SOMETHING started to happen - when James and the sexy bad vampire lass went after Kirsten Stewart - but it was obvious from the start that the good guys will prevail. The author also appears to be a religious fanatic. And from my experience with those people they're quite obsessed with human sexuality.
